The Tough Truth About Moving

We all know the old saying that nothing worth having was ever easy. Chances are, we also know how true that sentiment can be. And, never more than when you’re moving house. We all hope it’ll be easier to get our heads around than we expect, but it’s not. In fact, it’s harder than you could imagine. Is it any wonder, then, that we look for quick fixes? We’re more than willing to believe anyone who claims they can make the process easier. Anything to take some of the burdens.
But, anyone who tells you they can make things easier is lying. Worse, they may be involved in a scam. And, that’s the last thing you need. The amount of money involved in real estate makes it prime territory for those looking to take advantage. This mainly applies to the house selling process. Be wary of any company that says ‘we buy any house’. The temptations are obvious – these companies offer fast sales and high prices. But this is very much a too good to be true situation. Going down this route could end up costing you, and taking longer in the grand scheme of things.
In fact, the only person who can make your home move easier is you. Not much easier, mind. None of us can work miracles. But, taking pressure off in small ways will make a big difference. One of the main things to do is operate through trusted companies. This is your best way to avoid scams and involves more than just the house buying process. You’ll need to do your research every step of the way. Find out, early on, who you need to hire. Once you know, you’ll be able to search for reputable businesses in your area. It can also help to ask friends who have recently moved. Nothing beats a personal recommendation.
Organisation also plays a significant role in a smooth house move. Get organised from the off to ensure that everything goes to plan. It may help to buy a diary especially for the purpose. That way, you can make a clear outline of important dates. This will also help you to ensure everything comes together. As you’re working through different companies, you’ll need to make sure everything fits in. You’ll need to move between estate agents, surveyors, and moving companies.
As well as ensuring everything runs smoothly on the business end of things, you need to tackle your side. Companies can make moving a lot easier, but they can’t do all the work. That falls to you. Make sure you know how you want your moving day to proceed. Pack boxes as soon as possible, and do everything you can to save yourself the last minute rush. Refer to your diary and set out a timeline for the day. But, don’t panic if things are off slightly. Moving is unpredictable, and things can change. Use your schedule as a rough guide, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
