Apartment

You will generally want to buy an apartment if you are living in a city. You will find few traditional houses in a city, and if you do then, they are likely to be extremely expensive. With that in mind, an apartment can be a lot cheaper and more affordable. It likely won’t be as big as a house, but if you want to live in a city, then it is probably your only option. The benefit of living in the city is that you are close to work and all of the amenities, events and nightlife that a city provides. You might be at a point in your life where you still want to have the city experience and haven’t settled down with kids yet, so buying an apartment might be a great idea. Instead of buying a house outside the city centre and away from work you are right next to everything that you want and won’t need to worry about long travel times or living somewhere with not a lot to do.

Condo

A condo is short for a condominium. These are generally owned by a homeowners association or HOA. You can even get HOA construction on properties, and you can buy right into something like this. A condo might be an apartment, or it might be a house, but they always come with their own rules and membership. You need to be a member in order to live there, but it does come with its share of benefits. Everyone is responsible for the upkeep of the shared areas, and this can include things like a common room, corridors or even tennis courts depending on where you buy your condo. Due to the fact that everyone is paying a membership fee, it means that this money can be spent to improve the small community of people living in the homeowners association. This might be perfect for you.

House

You might want to buy a house if you have children, don’t want to live a city or prefer more rural and quieter areas. A house is generally larger than an apartment, and the extra space means that you can have more rooms, extra floors and all sorts of extra living space. If you have had enough of living in small city apartments and want more space, then you could move to a house. If you have kids, then living in a house will give them plenty of room to play and explore the local neighborhoods. However, if you still work in the city, then it can mean large travel times and commuting costs to get to work each day. There also won’t be as many events and things happening when compared to living in the city. However, you might be at the stage in your life where you want to settle down and live in a house.
