The 5 Best Places to Live in Florida

Florida

Florida: it’s the destination of choice for over 600 people per day, a land of sunshine, filled with beaches and beauty. Still, FL is a big state, so it can be difficult to decide where to go on vacation, let alone settle down.

Luckily, you don’t have to look far, because we’ve compiled a list of the 5 best places to live in Florida. We’ll go into detail on each of these places below.

Winter Springs

Cited consistently by various sources, Winter Springs is a suburb in Orlando that offers access to high-paying jobs, incredible schools, and a noteworthy entertainment district. It also has a much lower crime rate than average.

That being said, it is a fairly expensive place to live, with rent often exceeding $1,000 per month.

Naples

Also hailed by multiple sources is the city of Naples, a Florida town with about 20,000 residents on average. This city is known for its amazing sights and medley of things to do.

From golfing, to shopping to spending time on the beach, this city has it all. Plus, the school system is great, and the crime rate is low.

Much like Winter Springs, Naples is an expensive city, not just in terms of rent, but also in lifestyle. The shopping is luxury and most of the attractions seem to have been built for the rich.

Palm Beach

A popular vacation spot, it turns out that Palm Beach is also one of the best places to live in Florida. It scores top marks when it comes to schools, and is an excellent place to find work.

It also a very safe place with some incredible homes, a good deal of things to do, and somewhat affordable housing. Among its many hot spots, Palm Beach is also home to the PGA, and boasts some of the most amazing golf courses in the world.

Even so, it’s not a place to go if you prefer to live in an eclectic neighborhood, as it scores low on diversity. Plus, despite its lack of diversity, its population is over 100,000, so it might not suit those who aren’t comfortable in crowds.

Some say Palm Beach is still a pretty cozy place, but sometimes you truly are better safe than sorry.

Tallahassee

If you’re the type who’s young at heart, Tallahassee may be the place for you. Boasting a handful of different colleges, and home to the Florida Seminoles, Tallahassee is Florida’s state capital, and one of its most exciting cities.

Being home to college kids nearly year-round, this city has filled up with attractions and great food. Plus, it’s cheaper than living in Winter Springs. If you’re thinking of living in Tallahassee, but aren’t thrilled with your options so far, there are plenty of places to discover more.

One possible pitfall is that if you’re more of a conservative type, this might be a city you want to avoid, since it is notoriously liberal. However, if you see yourself as more of a leftist and an active one at that, Tallahassee should suit you just fine.

Fort Myers

Are you a baseball fan? Do you want to live in a place burgeoning with available jobs? Does the idea of affordable housing appeal to you? Do you get along well with the elderly?

If you’ve answered ‘n’ to all of these questions, avoid Fort Myers like the plague. However, if you did answer ‘yes’ to all, or even most of these questions, Fort Myers may be the place for you.

It boasts Spring training for two MLB teams, and falls well below the average cost of housing in America. It’s also become quite a favorite place to retire, so if you’re looking for a place to enjoy your leisurely years, look no further.
