Make Moving Easier With These 5 House Moving Tips

moving home

Moving from your home is undoubtedly a stressful and overwhelming process, so to make it easier, careful planning is required. Often, while we are getting everything we own packed up, we feel like getting rid of it and starting over, just so that we don’t have to deal with moving it all.

But luckily there are some things you can do to help relieve this stress and make the process a bit easier. Simple things like giving yourself ample time to plan can make the transition from one home to another a lot more palatable.

Also using proper packing tools, packing per room and removing what you don’t need to give to charity or into your rubbish pile, can make a big difference in the overall experience. You may even enjoy it.

1. Make A Checklist

The best way to start your moving process is to make a list of all the things you need to get done. Moving is tricky and often requires many little steps.

By writing all of these things down, you will avoid accidentally forgetting something during chaos. Plus, having a checklist will help you visualize all that you are accomplishing and give you a sense of reward every time you cross something off of the list.

2. Declutter Before You Pack

One of the biggest mistakes you can make during the moving process is moving with things you no longer need or use. Many households store items that have been replaced and are no longer in use, rather than get rid of them.

Packing old furniture, computers, appliance and so on not only does more work for you on moving day, but it also makes unpacking harder once you are in your new place. Instead, start by going through everything you own and getting rid of things you don’t use or need. Your moving costs may also be less when you take with you only what you need and use.

3. Stock Up On Moving Supplies

Before you start to pack, be sure you are stocked with all of the things you need to move. Having the proper tools for house removals on hand will make your life much easier. Things like boxes, tape, and scissors are essential to make your move run smoothly.

Pro moving tip: don’t buy boxes. Instead, go to your local grocery store or other local business and ask if you can have their boxes for free.

4. Pack Smart

When you finally start the packing process, find ways to pack smart that will make it easier for you on end. For example, don’t take your clothes off of their hangers. Instead, zip ties a group of hung clothes together and place them in a garbage bag.

Use rubber bands to keep lids on pots. Or use your t-shirt and towels to help pack fragile items. You can even color-code your boxes by room to make move-in day go that much easier.

5. Use Smaller Boxes for Heavier Items

One of the worst parts of moving is physically picking up all of the boxes. Keep this in mind when packing, especially heavy items.

Instead of packing heavy items in large boxes, making it almost impossible for you to move them alone, choose to pack these things in smaller, more manageable boxes. Your friends and your body will thank you when the big day arrives.
