Study the market

Most homeowners use the services of estate agents to put their home on the market, reach out to a network of buyer’s agents and prepare the home for numerous viewings. But, this shouldn’t stop you being knowledgeable about the whole process yourself so that you can do your bit. Do your homework, especially when it comes to price as you’ll need to play a big part in this decision.

Look at what similar homes have been selling for, how long they have been on the market and which properties have had to lower their asking price. By getting all of this information, you can challenge your estate agent and play an important role in the sale – and understand what a fair price will be.

Showcase the exterior of the house

Sprucing up the outside of a home can do wonders for selling the property. The presentation of a home’s exterior will give potential buyers a glimpse of what the rest of the house is going to look like and set that all-important first impression.

Here are two easy ways you can create the wow factor with your exterior:

  • Trim and tidy: Mow the lawn, trim the bushes, and water your plants for a clean look. Also, keep a close eye on other outdoor areas such as walkways, driveways and doorways – they might need a little spruce up and some TLC.
  • Highlight your outdoor living area: If you have an outdoor BBQ, pool or patio seating area, get them clean and tidy and be sure to highlight them as a selling point.

Get the inside ready for viewings
