  • Here's what would really control New Zealand rents

OPINION: It wasn?t that long after the Christchurch earthquakes that the calls for rent control came.

WOW - you mean like a a free market?
    Well duh.

    Hi PC,

Good find on the article and it's what we've all been saying for a very long time.

However, as we like to build bespoke homes, it takes longer to get designs through the process.

In other countries they don't mind rows and rows of the same architecture. A property is somewhere to live, not a statement of the owner's wealth or style.

If we did that here, there would be faster resource consent processing here, building supplies would be cheaper, and there'd be less wiggle room for developers and builders to push up margins.

    cheers,

    Donna

For a change, some valid commentary from an econ-o-mist.

Supply and demand (that satanic monster called "the market") determines prices, including rents.

A truism that's totally beyond the perception of every NZ moronic woodenhead everywhere, be they in W'gton or your local council.

It's basically the film "up" in disguise.

The local community are battling for their culture.
The laundry guy is wanting to line his pockets and making up some false social benefit to justify his greed.
          Imho.

            Oh ffs.

Do you think he should build housing for free?

And what culture is that? Homelessness?

            You should know better.

              Haha.

              That makes no sense.

I re watched that video again, just to make sure I had it right.

To me the main issue here is "Gentrification".
What do you think of that topic?

1 . I do not think he should build housing for free.
1A .I don't think he should build housing there.
1B. I go for the ideas of Vitruvius on this matter.
              see.

              2. Haha.
True, not culture, it's a counterculture, see:

              3. By your reasoning,
The Mona Lisa should be painted over, because some chap somewhere is short of a bit of canvas to paint on.
