Over 2 Billion dollars just borrowed by the Government.

Did the Government just borrow over 2 billion dollars this week?

What am I paying taxes for?
This new debt, is it secured against an inflation proof bond issue?
Is it smart to be on selling my taxes? what if they need them tomorrow?
    So tomorrow never comes?

what's 2.5 billion dollars divided by the earning population?

Quite some time ago the govt announced they were borrowing $300 million/week. Kinda gives validity to the criticisms of lowering the top tax rate, much as I thought it a good idea at the time. And makes the CGT idea stronger too damnit.

OH BS, look what they need to do is stop all the welfare programs like Working for Families, interest free loans for students etc.

Half the population in this country don't pay any taxes at all. The top ones are paying for virtually everything. And you're saying tax them some more?
        Squadly dinky do!

Perhaps a lot less tax wasted on BMWs, perks, London refits, consultants, etc.
First practical thing that they could do to reduce the over spending is fire half the 121 odd do nothing politicians.

So who just bought these bonds?
Be nice to know what country I’m going to be paying some of my taxes to.
What are the Government going to spend these billions on?
Why not just get the money up front, increase taxes, at least it’s all in the open?

So, let me get this straight.

Your answer is to raise taxes, as opposed to borrowing at 2%pa (inflation adjusted)?
Just how much would you like taxes to rise in order to pay for ChristChurch , and repay existing debt that is about to mature?

If you can’t maintain fair taxation, targeted people flee the country. And working dads with no choice already struggle to pay their bills but also pay a share for people in the neighbourhood who avoid working.

You can see why they wanted the assets sales to go ahead.

This Government is trying to reduce the handouts. Paula Bennet is doing a great job with the toughest of portfolios. NZ has too many free loaders we've breed them and its now inter-generational - families living off the Government - the rot has to stop. In the US you get 3 months and then it's over to you to support yourself - maybe we need to toughen up more on serial bludgers.

                  cheers,

                  Donna

We also need to crack down on prisioners rights as well, I read it cost $120,000 to keep them each year.

Bennett increases pursuit of welfare 'rorts'
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says more work is under way to detect beneficiary households, where multiple members are being paid the accommodation supplement.
She said it was not unlawful or considered to be fraud by Work and Income but she believed most New Zealanders would see it as "a rort".

I suspect it's fraud when the application disclosure
does not contain all the necessary answers. How
many PIs have written letters for tenants to give
to WINZ, with the sneaking suspicion that there
will be no mention of the earning partner made?

It's more likely when two (obviously an item) look
at a tenancy, then one insists that the TA is in
                          his / her name alone.

Lol, no ,no, I figure that since we’re all going to have to pay for that borrowing some way or other, it might as well be upfront, that way we know when we’re being fleeced.
Maybe I’d rather pay in taxes, rather than as a hidden cost ,plus the interest on the loan. Skews the demand curves you know.

I don't call repaying a loan presently costing 2.8% in interest costs, with a new longer term one costing 2.0% interest costs 'being fleeced' at all.
