What are the legalities of living in/renting out a sleepout? I am looking at purchasing a house which has a "gottage" It was built as a studio with toilet, later had a shower added, at which time it was referred to as a sleepout. It's insulated, has a kitchenette, a lounge and a bedroom. I would be happy living there and renting the main house to pay off the mortgage. However, would that be legal?
What if I decided to live in the main house, could I rent out the gottage?
    Cheers, pim

Do it as a flatshare. House and sleepout are a single household.

is it approved with council If so then definitly no problem but if there is doubt then a challenge is possible due to misinformation pervading this issue. You need to satisy RTA RMA and building act, It should be easy but you need to know the facts.
