Yes I've noticed that too. I remember the old days when I used to skip around the supermarket singing about how good the free bags were.

    Move on. Get over it...

I remember seeing on tv all these happy people signing the petition to ban plastic shopping bags and saying how good this would be.
Can't see any happy people now.
      Why is that?

Buy bin liners or use the thick plastic checkout bags?
Aliexpress, bulk buys, free shipping (for some orders). Cheap as. Trademe has them also, not as cheap.

Had this thread in mind when shopping yesterday for bin liners. Eco ones are expensive!. More than my Gym membership! So save the world or me , Greenies - dont tell me to take a hike , my choice !
Almost every aisle had tons of stuff wrapped in plastic. what gives?

Bin liners replacement ideas please ? - I am talking same cost as plastic bin liners, not daily price of feeding a family.

            Trademe or Aliexpress.

An example, but there are lots. This Trademe listing is for 500 - cheap but might be wrong size- 1912471407.

Since they are to be banned by all retailers there could be lots being offloaded in the next few months.

Neither happy or sad, am I.

I've been taking re-usable bags to the supermarket for many years, now.
                From home, I take a reusable coffee mug when I go to the Farmers' Market;
and a re-used bread bag for any bread I might buy.

I just had a thought - some enterprising kid should stand outside a supermarket and sell these bags to shoppers - 10 bags for 50c.
Shopper can give the bags to the checkout girl to fill.
                  Kid earns some pocket money.
                  Two wins.

You don’t need a liner, just wash it between uses!

How do you deal with ,
                      left over deteoriating foods -
greasy left over foods like meat/fish chicken , attracts all sorts of insects.

then you simply dump this into Council bin, attracts more flies/cats /dogs etc ?

So you need at least one bag, either bin liner or big rubbish bag that you can tie it up once in the bin each time.

Depends on how you live and your preferred diet.

Some backyard hens can deal with a lot of what would otherwise be [wasteful] landfill.

A compost heap can well manage most other scraps.

The local re-cycle depot takes care of most of the left-over remainder.

                                Payback time

The supermarkets stirred up the anti-plastic nutters with their banning of plastic bags at the checkout.
Now the nutters are taking it to the next level and are calling for a 'National Day of Action' against the supermarkets:

                                You have to smile.
The supermarkets have been duped by the nutters into moving to 'plastic free' without realising that they are locked into using plastic for all their made on site produce.
                                This could get awkward.
Food and hygiene regs mean foods items need to be covered and plastic works best for this.
The nutters are saying they don't mind eating contaminated food.
                                Strange people.
