I'm in Wellington and have a voluntary water meter. Cost for 3 people around $32 a month.

If no water meter is installed, the cost would be quite a bit higher as it is based on rating valuation. So whether it is worthwhile or not depends on RV and number of people using water. The Council has a calculation to determine if it is worth it or not, and can switch back at any time.

Has it gone up in Auckland? We were about $80-90 pcm around 4-6 months ago and earlier, but since it's shot up to $120-140.

if your one is strangely too high it maybe worth checking out that there is no leak anywhere...

We use about 800L per day, so about $90 per month in Auckland. It was nearly double until we stopped using mains water on the garden!

That might explain mine. We started to use it on the garden in this dry spell we're having. Despite cooling off a bit now, there's still not a lot of rain.

Yep, ours was up to $200 one month.. A rainwater tank saves a lot of money if you are a keen gardener. I'd like to use the rainwater for inside as well (toilet perhaps?) and setup a grey water system eventually. It's got to be the way forward.

Umm our metering starts in a couple of months yaaooh I'm dreading it - the tenants will be dreading it more though I'd say.

                              cheers,
