The reality is you either contribute to society or are an anchor on it. I prefer the former.
That's a much nicer, more condensed mantra.

    What can I contribute?

Does it have to be work? Ploughing a field with next season's crop?

Or could I be the minstrel who shares some of last seasons bread in exchange for a song?
(The farmers life is much happier with a beer and a song at the end of a long day).

Could I just think up a bit of math? like E=Mc2? and build a bomb that stops a war?

What could I contribute?...in your opinion?

Sit there and sing all you like. But don't expect others to fund your existence.

The interesting thing is many people choose to do what makes them happy - that often isn't the responsible choice - smashed Avo anyone?

The thing about being an adult is that you have responsibilities... sometimes those responsibilities aren't fun nor do they make you happy but nonetheless they must be done.

In the past society moved forward was dictated by the fastest in the group and the majority tried to keep up.Today we seem to be more concerned about moving at the pace of the slowest individuals.

Taylor Swift seemed to be doing pretty well out of stretching the pipes last night. Should she be in the kitchen cooking? having babies? running a big company?

Soo...I'm probably on the right track if I'm unhappy?
Suffering is the only thing that deserves to be paid for?

Where is or was this society you're talking about?
        It's moving forward?
        Where is it going?
Toward some sort of vision or goal?
What does that goal look like?
I'm not sure you're going to get too many followers unless they get to stop for beer and music along the way.

          Hypes gain, their loss.
Or another way of putting it:
Hype - the turtle that plods along consistantly.
Them - the easily distracted (your example) hare. Rewards, beer and music, before effort.

            Ahhh.
            The tortoise and the hare.
A tale by Aesop , the storytelling Greek slave from two and a half thousand years ago.
Slow and steady wins the race?
            Don't be arrogant?

I always wondered what they were racing for?
From a biological point of view, both speed and a hard shell are equally valid defences against airborne predators like a Hawke.

I expect a Greek slave had a very good reason for hoping that perseverance beats flare.
I wonder how you adopted it as your mantra?
A children's story when you were young? Or a Disney cartoon, that seeped into your ethos while yo were too small to consider it?

Anyone seen my response to this post???

I decided I didn't need to write it preferring to do something that makes me happy and someone would come write it for me. I've been sitting around singing amongst other things. I'm starting to feel hungry and my kids need a change but I'm expecting someone else will sort that out.

It doesn't matter, when things get real bad some bleeding heart will come and look after me and my kids after they've finished their full day at work, looked after their kids, gone off to pay their taxes. Probably mowed the lawns at their rental property.

Anyways - i'm off to sit on the beach. Can anyone spot me for a set of bongo drums?

That's an interesting phrase, where did you first hear it?

What's wrong with turning over a few kitchen pots and using them? or some old containers or buckets.
The point of primitive music is the syncopated and complex rhythms, not the look of the thing.

Ah, you've confused the form with the function.
If you want to look at them rather than play them …
then just pop down to the local music shop and you can look at as many of them as you want all day long.

You’ve confused sarcasm with serious. Now back to the topic.

                          ha. I agree.

I didn't know the larger drum was the male drum.

While the smaller drum was the female.

It made me laugh no end, to see a popular beat was carried by the smaller drum, while the larger one was out of step, but crucial to making the sound.

but yes, I agree, you shouldn't be bored, you are entitled to be entertained, best get back to your smashed Avocado brunches.

                            typical socialist mentality:
I dont have to work for what i get, everyone is entitled to anything they want & the State will pay.
Bring everyone down to the same equal level.
The fact that in order for the State to pay it must take from those that already have, seems to escape those that are demanding, until they are in a position of Having and they finally discover where the State gets its money !

That has Jacinda the former President of the International Socialist Youth written all over it.
