Replacing your words 'the dispute' with 'this dispute'; and my question is why?

Why is the outsourcing of admin not even an option?
Why can't it be contracted out to a company offering to do it at less cost?

Trouble is, to get the whole of the world's population up to western living standard needs more energy than the planet's got. Even if we could there, it would only last as long as fossil fuels do. Solar etc can't cut it.

Do you think bank tellers should have the option to belong to a Union if they so wish?

No, I do not think it would be a good outcome, but the business should not be prevented from taking this decision. I think it would be a silly short-term-gain-long-term-massive-error decision, but it should be their decision to make.

Anyone should be allowed to belong to a union if they wish. It should not be mandatory.

You will notice my question specifically mentioned bank tellers.

Last time I dropped into megabank to chat with my favourite tellers, and withdraw my $50 for a couple of rounds at the RSA; I did not have to travel via Manila.

They are also able to join FIRST Union (previously Finsec) if they so wish.

              So; my question remains.
But did you ask the Bank Teller if they were contracted to the bank - they may be a temp - through a temp agency e.g. the service is outsourced. bums are placed on seats with an SLA in place for a fixed fee etc.

The Bank Teller is paid an hourly rate responsible for their own tax, super etc - or the temp agency may pay that for them but they are still on a contract not a 'perm job' as such.

              Cheers,

              Donna

Our worst environmental disaster is caused by incompetent crew, who cannot differentiate between safety, and saying no to the boss when pushed by commercial pressure to make the tide.

We want $400 fares on Low cost airlines to Asia.

We continually accept companies contracting jobs out on lesser terms and conditions and say nothing, "because it doesn't affect me".

The shocking abuses of fishing vessel crews operating in our waters.
Finally highlighted by good old fashioned investigative journalism in NZ.
Slaves Put Squid on U.S. Dining Tables From South Pacific Catch

This race to the bottom to meet our 'need' to have everything cheap will cause a continuing deterioration of our lifestyle.

What a great future we are leaving our grand kids.

No rights as a worker because "you are only a contractor , not an employee"

                PS: Re TLL below.
                I agree.

Some of us prefer to pay higher fares for a better class of airline, speights.

Why would you be so picky as to change my words around, the with this, what does it matter??

If you read what I wrote I said that the admin was not an issue so why change the status quo?? Perhaps if they too were working 26 hours and being paid for 40 then it could be given consideration.

However they are not working 26 hours and being paid for 40 hours so there is no need to change.

I hope that clarifies things for you.

But, you are not management; so you do not get to make that decision.

                      It's all that other lot.
                      Not me.
                      I'm OK.
                      My job is secure.

You cannot legislate your way into wealth the same as you cannot picket or unionise yourself into wealth. Wealth is ultimately a result of producivity and that is not neccessarily a result of hard work but rather co-operation. There is a bit of socialism in every successful endeavour.

                        Who said that? Me!

I have tough hands calloused through fencing and scrub cutting many years aogo, they will never drive the nails through!

Seriously I blame selfishness and loss of values. Co-operation with initiatives to increase productivity ultimately improves the wealth of everyone. It's just that some people prefer to shortcut the process and lever their position to gain at the expense of others.

                              Typical biased prejudice from you-know-who.

I'm not sure that co-operation and hard work are (as implied) mutually ex-
clusive, at all. And, given the other comments, let's throw in a measure of
sacrifice, as well. To explain . . .

I lived in a single-open-space corrugated sheet steel shed for over seven
years. Two adults and two children, with only an outside toilet and shower.
It was bloody cold in winter, inside and going out to the toilet and shower.
That was called a sacrifice. Something most all socialist regimes want to
squash. "No one should have to do that," might be the catch-cry. But as
Shalodge implies, it doesn't quite work that way. So, much, much later . . .

That my tenants live in conditions far better than we did, over those years,
is not something I envy. Or regret. They are faced with managing a weekly
rent expense. I'm faced with managing their weekly rent income.

Co-operation can and does work, under certain circumstances. Same goes
for hard work and calloused hands. But the "I'm entitled" mentality of far
too many is an anathema to the improvement of the living standards of all
the 'community' in which such opportunistic parasites live.
