  • Oh you racist Perry! They're maraes so you know, everything about them is 100% perfect.

Right people, right food, right customs and rituals, right buildings...

Because to say absolutely anything negative about Maori themselves, their culture or anything to do with them at all is not acceptable at the moment.
    Squadly dinky do!

      • Well, if we step back a moment, my comparison was rather tongue-in-cheek.

I can't imagine any PI (whether on these forums or not) offering a residential rental to a homeless person.

I doubt they would have the wherewithal to pay for it, even with Little Red Robbing Hood chipping in with funds appropriated from NZ's productive sector.

A few of the homeless are that way by choice, too.

I think all this hand-winging piety is an exercise in distracting, feel-good, look-good, image-projection.

        • "The Labour-led government has a comprehensive plan to address the housing shortage

including cracking down on offshore speculators and changing rules around negative gearing," Twyford said.

how does that help more houses get built?

surely it will result in LESS being built!

you'd think with half a brain

          they'd BUILD 1st

          strangle investment 2nd

          • Any sign of the comprehensive plan and its grisly details being in the public domain?

            • I predict .... people sleeping in cars so they can be scooped into warm dry (cheap) housing before they feature on the front page of the newspaper.

There are many people living in crowded conditions, bunking down with long suffering friends and relations. With a promise of nobody sleeping in a car this winter why wouldn't they pack up the car with blankets, children and a few photos and park in front of a local electorate office? I certainly would.

              • That's a great idea... I might test it. How long before i get a free place. I could then rent out my place

                • First-home buyers turn to letter-writing to get a foot in the door

Four included personal letters, one hand written and two with photos of the buyer's children enclosed. One letter said, "we loved your little home and we would love to bring up our children in it."

"The people who wrote the letters weren't offering as much," she said. "In the current market, it's all about the dollar. "It's nice to think you would be altruistic and it would go to someone who cared about it, but we had moved out 18 months before and we didn't have the emotional pull." The difference between the lowest and highest offer on the 320sqm property was $95,000. "Most people would want as much money as possible without the hassle. If you don't, you're a much nicer person than me."

Do you have a solution to the problem of not enough houses to go around?
Seems that you don't like anything anyone else is doing or trying to do.

                    • There is, of course, no one 'solution' to the problem (which is why the proposed quick fixes fail).

The causes are many, and have taken 30+ years to impact.

Even if we did take the right steps now, it would take probably as long again to resolve the problem.

Just picking on 'the banks, 'the developers', 'the councils', 'the investors' or whatever and hammering that one particular group is a fruitless (but somehow satisfying!) exercise.

As flyer mentioned, most solutions take time for the effects to be seen. But charity begins at home.

I'd start with immigration. Turn that tap off, right now. The beneficial housing / infrastructure effect would probably be felt quite quickly.

What Dhil's doing is sticking plaster surgery on a seriously ill patient.

So there is no 'good' immigration?
Say builders and tradies to get the work done?
I found it interesting that we can't plant 1B trees because we can't now find workers to do it.
There was a time when people would move (maybe just the father) to where the work was but not anymore.

Lots of unemployed in Northland, though maybe some of Mr Jones' billions could be used to sort transport for them if needed. It's a big area. And hard work.

Those nephs off the couch yet?

Turn off the tap and take a breather.

Review the matter, some time later.

Only resident or born-here NZ citizens can own NZ land and buildings would be next.

Then maybe tougher criteria to obtain citizenship.

The bleeding heart, do-gooder. socialists who are ruining NZ will label that message as xenophobic and any other nasty phrases they can shriek, to distract people from the message.
