Warrant of Fitness for rentals (including details)
Its beat down the landlord time, we seem to be flavour of the month. Do they want rents to rise even more. Should be subsidised if they want us to do this.
If they require walls to be insulated they've just put rents up significantly - what percentage of NZ houses were built pre 1980's? 50%, more? I acutally thought fire alarms were compuslory anyway - my PM always insists on them - whether or not the tenant keeps a battery in tthem of course is a different issue...
And yeah our PPOR can't have ceiling insulation in the lounge -it's a cathedral ceiling - with no space between the chipboard and the tiles.
Its typical National Gov't- govern by popular opinion. a poor brown family in a state house's child dies in a cold house and ALL landlords are held responsible- that STATE house was substandard and was a failure of Housing NZ (or whatever they are called these days) but still doesn't fix the underlying issue of: SOME POOR PEOPLE CAN"T AFFORD TO HEAT THEIR HOMES
The question is going to to how much will it pay us to get some bullshit certificate of compliance from some moronic gov't official- it won't be free.
Still those that think all landlords are greedy, rapacious bastards will be happy.
Time to start up a property insulation business...
Odd it's an issue now when we have global warming - winters are warmer now. Clearly folk have been living in cold houses in NZ forever and the only difference is more owned them - now more rent them.
I thought it was more a problem of can't afford the electricity to run the heater any more.
Houses have room for improvement - but why is there no noise about how expensive heating has become?
The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates and a monthly salary - Fred Wilson.

Because it's Green/Labour policy to make energy more expensive?
Well I'm not calling for more regulation - power is already regulated.
It is clever regulation.
You limit the return a company can make on the asset value.
So they inflate the value and can therefore charge more.
Very clever of the companies.
If the Govt genuinely cared about the state of NZ homes the WOF would apply to all homes - not just rentals aye.
100% right Donna, funny how we all survived in our drafty cold homes wrapped up in flammable blankets and flammable flannel jammies sitting 3 inches away from an exposed 2 bar coil heater. It's a miracle any of us survived.
