I'm looking at re-roofing a house of about 120m2 floor area. I've had a quote for $13k for colour steel or $12k for plain zinc alum. I was just wondering how that seems for price and also what your preference would be and why? Or... any other options I should look at? This also includes guttering and building paper.

Given that this price includes guttering it seems ok given that you are a general customer not a tradie (I am assuming?)Originally posted by drelly View PostI'm looking at re-roofing a house of about 120m2 floor area. I would run with the colour steel, no reason, just a preference!
If you have a sarked roof (ie...no ceiling space) I would seriously recommend looking at insulation at the same time.

I like thatch. Some of those biscuit-tin cottages in UK villages around the south and southwest are gorgeous.

I live in Northland. Do you think Hemp would work?Originally posted by TheLiberalLeft View PostI like thatch. Some of those biscuit-tin cottages in UK villages around the south and southwest are gorgeous.
Stickman. It's already insulated but there are some gaps that might be worth filling in.You can find me at: Energise Web Design

If you're near the beach, I'd get plastic guttering. I have 6yr old metal stuff rusting through the finish, with some brackets actually falling off. Roof (aluminium) seems ok though.Originally posted by drelly View PostI'm looking at re-roofing a house of about 120m2 floor area. I've been told to be careful with zincalume if there are copper pipe overflows that might discharge onto the roof (e.g. from hot water cylinder) - apparently eats through the zincalume real quickly. Not sure how true it is.Originally posted by drelly View PostI'm looking at re-roofing a house of about 120m2 floor area. I've had a quote for $13k for colour steel or $12k for plain zinc alum. I tend to agree. I've noticed that some older houses are being reroofed with sheets of something that looks like gritted tiles. Anyone know about those?Originally posted by One View PostI reckon plain zincalume looks awfully unfinished and cheap. I'd pay the extra. You can find me at: Energise Web Design

Oh - and as for price - to be honest I'm not sure. I'd have thought the price is about right. However I've also just had a quote for re roofing about 100 m2 and it was way cheaper than expected - $8K for colour steel and $6.2K for zincalume. This is in an area of the country that I'd expect the prices to be over the top - so now I'm actually wondering. Your quote is a lot closer to what I was expecting. Perhaps I'd better accept the quote quickly.

Yep that looks like it. I'll get a quote and post it here for comparison.Originally posted by One View PostThis stuff? gerardroofs.co.nz/profile_and_finish/gerard_colourtile.aspxLast edited by donna; 14-05-2017, 10:45 AM.You can find me at: Energise Web Design

Colorsteel would be my preference. I seem to remember Colorsteel had a longer warranty period compared to Zincalume.
Did a re-roof about 7 months ago in the Bay of Plenty area. Single storey 180m2 floor area for $13.5k.
Price included scaffolding and upgraded building paper. Did not include guttering as mine was fine.
