Shail, I was offered a Placemakers Trade card the other day, however it is still sitting in the in tray, will have a look at it over the weekend. Not sure about the big boys but with 3 brothers you need to establish a spending pattern, however their prices are very competitive anyway, also Mitre 10 etc will match prices and beat it by 10%, I have stumbled across that before, worked well, but generally don't have the time to shop around, I have a good idea of what stuff is worth."If you think education is expensive, try ignorance"

I use a M10 account it's very good for plants, timber and raw materials like gargen peddles.
The discount for other goods is OK, usually better than anywere else.
I would say if you are spending too much time on this you could probably find a better use of your time.
One thing I do is pay for everything with my Globalplus mastercard, getting airpoints, then get flybuys with M10 and shell.
It all adds up and most years I will get a trip anywere in the world for the whole family, but it doesn't take much to get even a smaller freeby.
And best of all it's a non taxable fringe benefit.

Might as well ask in this thread:
We are in the final stages of getting a property under contract. It will be a buy-renovate-sell situation.
Approx 110 sq m, will need a wall removed, new kitchen and new bathroom (only partially as some is already done) every room will need to be replastered and painted (gib is already up and ready to go), more lights are needed as well, floors will be polished.
The landscaping also needs a lot of work, as there are many trees shading the house making it quite dark, and an overgrown wilderness on the back section. Some of the existing deck timbers will also need replacing.
There is no garage and we are trying to see if we could get that installed under the deck.
We are budgeting approx 25-30K, is this reasonable for the work we have listed or too little?
We will be using contractors and helping out when we can.
Any help?Jarrod

hmm..thanks guys.
while i have started another thread on this, perhaps you could recommend a good carpet layer, plumber, joiner and valuer in south auckland.
please also recommend:
- good interior and exterior paint (price sensitive)
- good place to buy light fittings and carpets from in auckland
- good place to buy kitset kitchen in auckland (for standard rental property so nothing close to designer kitchens).
cheers

Asking here rather than starting a new thread; but i have a question regarding bathrooms.
We have looked at tow houses today during open homes - just to get a feel. In both, the bathroom is far away from the bedrooms. In one house - bedrooms at one end, with lougnge and kitchen between them and the Bathroom. In the other, bathroom is downstairs and bedrooms upstairs.
Does it matter ? Will anyone care?
It would to me if I was buying for me - but im not. I find it really odd, but im aware that may just be my british sense of house layout and that it could be just the thing here
Cheers

To be honest Avalon I have never really thought about it.
I dont tend to look at the location of the bathroom in relation to the location of the bedrooms when looking at houses. There are other much more important things to be considered. I dont think many people would notice this detail.
But I suppose it can be important in some cases. Maybe for people who are less mobile.

Turn on both taps an equal amount, say one full turn.Originally posted by shahil.nazia View PostHow can you tell the difference between a low pressure plumbing vs high pressure plumbing?
If the water comes streaming out both taps in equal large amounts, thats mains pressure. Enjoy.
If it comes rushing out the cold and trickling out the hot, then that is low pressure (Unequal)
If it dribbles out of both taps, start crying, you probably have an equal low pressure system... Bloody hard to get taps for and... Why bother since you'll never get a decent water pressure.

I would say that a house with the bathroom down and bedrooms up would be an issue for me. And if you have identified it as a problem now, then it could well be a problem for a future buyer if you ever sell in the future. I would imagine a family with young children, or the elderly would find it a pain. Personally wouldn't be bothered by it, unless I thought the people I was going to be renting it to were likely to be Brits...
What is it with the one 'perfect' house design that goes on in this country... Very dull.
