    • Encroaching on bureaucrats, their reigns and their sinecures will never be easy, no
matter who is on the Council. The red tape wallahs self-preservation and protection
armoury is well stocked with weapons, ammunition and smokescreen equipment.

        • while painted today listened to radio live

willie jackson was trying to support brown for re-election

even though, in his own words

brown had done "nothing for the city", and "should have resigned" for banging bevan

          not 1 caller backed brown...

          and now this

Prominent business leaders, sailors, architects, musicians and art figures have signed an open letter demanding that Ports of Auckland "stop stealing our harbour" for two massive wharf extensions.

Auckland Council, which owns the port, granted resource consent late last year for two large wharf extensions from the end of Bledisloe Wharf. They extend out about 100m, are 33m wide and cover 7590sq m.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown has declined an invitation to speak at Sunday's protest

maybe he'll be looking for new campaign staff now that his team have walked?

Haven't a number of Auckland wharves got (been lost to) residential
apartments on them? Now more wharves are sought? Wazzup?

            • Oh and this:

The chair of the Auckland Council Ethnic People's Advisory Panel has resigned, saying he has serious concerns about how the council is being run.

Feroz Ali said the panel, one of about a dozen created by the mayor, had no real status and was unhappy about what it was costing ratepayers.

So even the people hired into plum positions are saying it's a waste of time and money.

                    continues

Another member of the Auckland Council Ethnic People's Advisory Panel has resigned,

His resignation follows that of panel chairman Feroz Ali, who quit last week saying the panel was a

"token" body, had no real status and that he was unhappy about what it was costing ratepayers.

and the Herald understands at least two of the nine remaining panellists are on the verge of quitting.

He was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and is a leader of the local Congolese community.

Mr Mundele is a pastor with a background in community development and banking, and is an advocate of human rights and social justice.

"Kafeba didn't give a specific reason for resigning, but we know he shared the same concerns as Feroz,"

                    • Auckland Mayor Len Brown today walked out of a council meeting following a stoush with councillor Casey Casey over port expansion.

After pushing for a debate on the issue as an item of extraordinary business, Ms Casey responded to Mr Brown's refusal to the request by accusing the mayor of not listening to the people of Auckland.

Since when did Len have the power to fire councillors?

                            • Well he doesn't but I imagine he could exclude her from meetings, committees or something.

The mayor does have more power under the SuperCity. Hide etc. made this the case - John Banks was supposed to get in and get things done...

If the mayor can have a secret office behind his office, and have sex in a Maori chamber/meeting room AND get away with it... Yes I believe he does have the power to do whatever he wants.
