    • Over two thirds of NZers have seen the light. Why on earth would you want to live there? In addition to the topic of this thread, Unaffordable housing and traffic issues that would drive most people nuts.

no happy residents or rate payers
Sounds about normal for this council eri. They always just do what they want with our money.

Not happy that people are flooding into the city in net record numbers, pushing the price of their house to record levels?
Sounds like serial complainers wanting all the gain of record net Akl immigration and none of the pain.

          (Disclosure : Akl ratepayer)

          • You want a binding or non-binding referendum ? I'd settle for non-binding, as it's a simpler way for the people to be heard. Few bother with submissions. They're a waste of time.
How would you word it ?

            Would you rather:

            a) Toll motorway roads the same amount of money whether you're driving Orewa to Silverdale (one junction) or Orewa to Pukekohe and charge motorcycles the same as cars, for roads already paid for by tax dollars over roads the council has no official juristiction?
            b) Add a few cents to the per litre price of petrol and diesel at the pump so it's truly user-pays?
            c) None of the above as Brown needs to pull his extra-marital fornicating and over-spending other peoples' money head in

When do you want it to be posted out to households ? Pointless question.

              • FINALLY

they've stopped trying to kill the golden geese

                and helped the developers

                develop

The accord was agreed on last October [2013] by the council and the Government .

It is targeted at increasing the housing supply in Auckland by streamlining the planning and consenting process required for land development and house building.

The accord's overall aim is to have 39,000 homes built by 2016.

"It is good progress that 11,060 new sections and dwellings have been achieved in the first year - more than 20 per cent above target of 9000," Dr Smith said.

                  • Auckland rate hike approved
The cap which has protected some Auckland homeowners from up to 40 per cent rates rises has been voted down today.

Auckland Council's Governing Body today argued its way through its 10-year budget, known as the Long-term Plan 2015-25.

Among a series of major decisions it has removed the rates cap, refused a referendum on its controversial plans to pay for expensive transport projects and made changes to how it charges property developers.

The vote to scrap the rates cap was tight - 11 votes to 10.
                    ...............
The councillors voted 12 votes to 9 to refuse a referendum to seek feedback from Aucklanders on transport investment and funding options.

                    • All those in favour of democracy, please say aye.
                      Those against, please say nay.
                      Motion lost.

As they were leaving the room, many councillors
were heard to chant in unison:
                      we were elected to govern

                      we were elected to govern

                      we were elected to govern.

and everyone who voted for him TWICE

is badly shamed by his mess

At an acrimonious council meeting yesterday, Mayor Len Brown and councillors

could not agree on the best way to handle rates rises and give Aucklanders a say on tolls or a fuel tax to plug a $12 billion transport funding gap.

Some councillors want measures to soften the impact of the rates rises. Others, including Mr Brown, want to go "cold turkey", introducing the increases in one hit

Oh dear - not the positive I wanted but

                                You can try!
Unless you can act as a cartel and all increase your rents the market comes into play.
People said the same at the time of the depreciation being dropped etc - all gloom and doom for tenants as LL's increased their rents.
                                Didn't happen.
Sure rents have gone up in some areas (heaps in Christchurch) but it is a bit hard to pin it on any one event.

In short - if rents were based on your costs they'd be a lot higher now.
