    Tribunal Reform Programme Research

I've been "randomly selected" to take part in a 15 minute telephone interview by a Research company commissioned by the Min Of Justice /Law Commission who are undertaking an "extensive review of the Tribunal system In NZ to ensure that it best meets the needs of the people who use it".

How exciting!!!Theres room for improvement and i hope the research results in some positive change. Has anyone else been invited to participate in this?

The letter I received yesterday advised me to prepare for my interview by thinking about what my tribunal experience was like.No problem there - Ive had a few memorable hearings - have lots to say & its’ not all good….. will probably give them more than 15 minutes worth! (My hubby laughed that the poor interviewer may rue having me rant on the phone…he knows me well!)

    Brilliant!!

    Hi Cassandra

Tell it how it is for us LL's TRYING to get a fair deal at the TT.

    To quote Glenn :

...it seemed to fall on flappy woolly closed ears more befitting a blind turtle.
This is what we have to deal with. Maybe telling interviewers that even when a LL has a strong case, it's the INTERPRETATION put on the RTA by the adjudicators that makes life difficult for us.

Let us know how you get on.
    Patience is a virtue.

Perahaps we should start a thread on all the things that we would hope a DT and TT would do for us.

Things like enforcement for the both of them should be the same.
Why should it be different for TT. For DT you do not hae to pay the $90.

Why should there be a difference between civil and criminal courts for address for service. The crims are bad payers also and they do not see any difference between the two. We need to access the addresses that the court has.

Why is there no facility to dispute findings for orders under $1000.

Such a thread would be a great idea, so long as we kept
the emotion and rhetoric out of it. You start, Glenn, and
keep a watch on everyone else, too!

I'll start with a major gripe. Tenancy Advocates (aka
adjudicators) at said Unobunal hearings making awards
(giving relief) for items not requested by tenants.
          (Or LLs, for that matter.)

Not only is this inexcusable bias, it also denies the
fundamental right of all parties to litigation: the
          right to be heard
on matters that are to be
determined (or likely to be determined) by the
          judgement/Order/decision of the person presiding,
the outcome of which will have some material
impact on the parties to the dispute/Hearing.
