    What did you achieve in 2004?

    Marc and I reflected on what we achieved in 2004 -
    • Bought 2 x houses; Sold 1 x land;
      Currently for sale 1 x land, 1 x apartment;
      Had 3 x Overseas trips;
      Migrated from Aus to NZ;
      I changed career after 16 years;

      Also in 2004 we have partnered with 2 others and created an online advertising program (due for release in 2005 - www.adpartnernetwork.co.nz);

      And most importantly - Propertytalk gained many NZ Business sponsors and unique visits grew from 7,000 per month in Jan 04 to 31,000 visits in Dec 04.

    Keen to hear your achievements.

    Hi Donna, this year was a good year, although didn't buy as many properties as the previous year.

    Bought 15 properties -
    1 onsale of contract -
    4 buy and holds -
    10 quickcash properties which I still have 3 of. These will be sold within the next couple of years, as the tenants were there wanting to stay for a while when they were bought.

    Sold a few other properties, about 5 I think

    Did some talks for Property Investor Associations - Napier, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington

    Employed someone full time to manage my properties and the Mr Rentals business in Hawkes Bay

    Had a reprint done of my book after 5,000 copies were sold

    Started with a trainer for the gym 3 days a week, now 5 days a week.
    Still walking 7 days a week for at least 40 mins a day

    Completed Keith Cunninghams' 12-month mentoring programme and his graduate programme in Sydney.

    Attended Steve Mc Knight's seminar in Melbourne

    Started my 12-month mentoring programme, and have organised another one for next year

    Attended Roger Hamilton's weekend seminar in Singapore in September, then bought the NZ franchise with 3 others to market his books, events and seminars in NZ. Had some preview evenings in Auckland and Wellington in November for his seminar in April 2005. Also had the website set up for this www.winkandgrowrich.co.nz

    Became a Dad on 14th November for the first time when Ryan was born

        Big year for me

        I brought 4 properties. 1 to live in and 3 for investment.
        Broke up with my partner which was great for myself not so good for the investment side of things. Then found love!
        Qualified, in Taupo, and competed in the Hawaiian Ironman. Finishing just inside my goal time. Next year I'm aiming on becoming a pro Ironman.
        Travelled to France to present at a fitness convention about group fitness.
        Presented on 3 fitness videos which sold over 15000 copies to fitness instructors in the world.
        Took 4 fitness weekend seminars
        Wrote, with a doctor friend of mine, my first book. It's on fitness. It's kind of like 'the one minute manager' but it's for fitness. Now to get the world to read it.
        Dropped my hours down at work to 10 hours a week and managed to get paid more.
        Learnt lots about property.
        Consulted on goal setting with some big businesses.
        And the big one, had time for my girl!

        Had a good year, bring on next year. It's going to be a big year!

          Hi All

          Great to see all the success stories. We've had a big year of change too.

          We bought 3 Properties with 16 income streams.

          Started two accommodation businesses which have both exceeded our initial projections.

          Best of all on the last day of the year we have had our third child.

          Next year it is sell our PPOR, move cities and kiss the corporate world goodbye.

          Good luck to all of you in your endevours and thank you for the assistance that we have received through this forum.

            Hi Guys

            Well, after reading all about what you all have achieved, my life is boring.

            Bought one IP, became a grandfather for the sixth time, clocked up about 1000 postings on PT and have decided to get out of the rat race and retire.

            Bought Graeme's book, lent it to somebody and can't remember who. Suppose I will have to buy another copy.

            Also means I can devote more time to reading ALL the postings being made on PT.

            Have a Happy New Year, all

            Regards

              Hey folks,

              You lot are inspiring!

              I didn't do much in the property front, apart from watch my equity skyrocket! More of that, please. I had wonderful tenants who paid their rent, and even did maintenance work themselves at times. More of them, as well, thanks. I joined the propertytalk forum, which has been fantastic. I've learnt heaps already, and got to know a few of you a little.

              I have acheived things in other areas, though. I've begun learning the guitar and the drums, and am still learning the harmonica. I played my first live gig with some friends (of sorts, it was for a few other friends). And I wrote and performed my first original song, written for my brother-in-law for Christmas. If you happen to enjoy the sound of cats fighting in a garbage can, I can provide you with a copy!

              I have also managed to be thankful for what I have, especially in the last few days.

              Have a very safe and happy new year.

              Cheers,
              Lynda.

                Goodness what have I done?
                Sold off a community owned youth campsite that I had run for 30 years. This had been part of our families life for all that time.
                Bought a small share of a multi story building that has already had an offer $6m more than we paid for it a few months ago.
                After about 30 seconds discussion with the wife (she says I did not actually talk at all about it) bought my first residential investment for about 8 years.
                Got my first Daughter in Law.
                Had all my family home for Christmas for the first time in 6 years. I fell asleep on the couch until some fool rang me about their problems.
                Got my wife to retire from paid employment.
                Tried to slow down the growth of my property management business by upping the commission only to discover the customers really do not seem to care about that. They keep talking about doing a great job before I have had a chance to fail.
                Surely I must be a failure if I cannot stop them loving me.

                  All excellent summaries and interesting to see what people have done!

                  As for me

                  Bought two properties
                  Had trip back to NZ (to see family and research properties)
                  Had my contract renewed in London twice
                  Moved house in London
                  Spent many hours on the Web looking at properties and researching articles / reading books
                  Travelled extensively through UK and Europe
                  Held a DJ residency monthly at Home Bar in Shoreditch, London.

                  Next year keen to purchase more property (when I find the right ones).

                  Applied to complete the PMP Project Management qualification and generally read more on property.

                  Off to Rio for Carnival in February for 2 weeks.

                  Also travelling back to NZ in April with my girlfriend so that I can show her around our beautiful country for 8 weeks (and so that I can see all the places I haven't seen but have heard so much about for myself!!!).

                  Enjoyed reading all the forums on this site!

                  Have a great New Years and all the best for 2005!!!

                    Hi all

                    While we have not been as busy as some we certainly been making strides forward in the investing scene.

                    We have bought one property and ready to purchase again. We are just waiting for the right property to come along.

                    Our third child, Andre was born January 2004. Wow how time does move on. He will be one in 3 weeks time.

                    We will have been in Brunei 4 years next week and graturity payout will come our way. What a pitty the exchange rate is not as good as it was when we first arrived.

                    Hope you all have a great New Year

                    Tamara

                      Congrats to everyone - some great achievements out there.

                      My year started well with 4 months living in Whangamata and spending most days at the beach with my (then) 18 month old daughter.

                      I got offered a great job back in Wellington that I just couldn't refuse. We spent 2 months in an inner city apartment which was a great expereince, but not a lot of room with a small person.

                      As good as the apartment expereince was, it was great to get back into our house in the 'burbs. I sure do appreciate what we have now!

                      On the property front I didn't manage to buy anything. Lots of looking, a handfull of offers on the right places, but no purchases. For a while I was cursing the market and people that were prepared to pay silly money for an investment property, but then I realised it wasn't them - it was me. I simply haven't been working hard enough at it.

                      So the new year's resolution is to buy the next property within the next 3 months. I have a pile of potentials sitting on the table next to me, so with that it begins....

                          Wonderful achievements everyone...

                          We returned to live in Godzone via a world trip, after two fantastic years living and working in Papua New Guinea (not missionaries)! Our two boys learned to run free, drink fresh coconut milk, identify various snakes by their markings and play with village children - magical, and not a Playstation in site!!

                          Purchased one house, sold one house, looking for another currently.

                          Determined to now become masters of our own destiny, we have thrown in the jobs, to follow our goal of establishing a new business based on our passions, so have spent six months identifying and clarifying and we are now about to make a start (here comes a move to JAFA land)...

                          The PT site is great and the achievements of others on the forum is very motivating.

                          All the best for 2005 and beyond!

                            What a motivational and inspirational site!
                            I am a newbie to this forum.
                            My year has been monumental for my partner and I.
                            We became parents (our son now 12 months old)

                            We brought an investment property in June and we will go unconditional on 2 x 2 bedroom units this week.

                            Congratulations to everyone on this site for thinking outside the square........

                              Well done everybody,

                              It inspires me hear how well other investor's are doing.

                              I managed to pruchase 3 houses in 2004 with another one under contract, also took 2 overseas trips and read over a dozen books relating to property investment.

                              In 2005 I will be looking for a career change and to relocate with my wife to Hawkes Bay.

                              Happy new year everybody and good luck for 2005.
