Pet without concent
We've discovered that our new tentent has a cat for which we were not previously aware of. We don't mind if they have a goldfish but a cat leaves behind a smell that is hard to get rid of and we can no longer claim our house to be allergy free which limits the property's future rentability.

New Pet Rule from Dec 2025
The new pet rule takes effect in December 2025. There will be some pleased tenants and some very unhappy LLs. There are also some unknowns too.
The new townhouses where the BC is prohibiting pets - this is grounds for LLs not allowing pets under the new rule.

Who should pay for rubbish bins/bags?
Auckland Council is adding a compulsory rubbish collection charge to rates and choice of bin sizes at different prices ($134 - $269). Until now rubbish is user paid by the purchase of official rubbish bags by the occupier of the property. Tenants bought however many bags they wanted and put full bags... -

Rental property becomes paid rubbish tip
MSN says the tenant's brother runs a waste removal company, and they were using the rental's front area to dump rubbish they'd collected from their customers. Maybe this was how the tenant paid the rent!
