  • immigration reform?

as a small, stable, western, educated country

nz has been able to respond swiftly + accurately to a changing world

often found at the top of world rankings

    along with the scandinavians

so it pays to keep an eye on how they are doing and what they are thinking

Denmark’s lefty image, if it was ever accurate, is at least 15 years out of date.

In the late 1990s the Danish People’s Party (DPP), founded by Pia Kjaersgaard, began to denounce immigration, multiculturalism and Islam as alien to Danish society and values.

The party tapped into fears of rising crime and fed on the resentment of working-class and conservative Danes who felt ignored by the liberal governing elite.

Plain-spoken politics, participatory civic culture and generous social security are advantages that come with drawbacks

    No immigration reform here:

Net migration is now adding more than 7000 new residents a month to the country's population

Posted in Property Updated March 20, 2015 - 11:16am, Greg Ninness

New Zealand's population growth from migration set a new all time high of 55,121 people in the year to February, well up on the gain of 29,022 in the year to February 2014.
February was the seventh straight month in a row that the annual record for population gain from migration has been surpassed.
And the month of February also set a new record, with the population increasing by 7101 during the month, the highest gain in any single month since published records began in 1978.

So this is higher than ever, including 2003. 7,000 per month = 84,000 per annum = 1.86% population increase per annum (84k/4.5m).

I reckon Scandinavian countries accepted lots of refugees from countries like Somali, etc., hence their current problems. On the contrary, NZ invites/accepts skilled migrants and their families...

We get refugees also - from Somalia also.

Proportion between migrants and refugees is very different here and in Scandinavia. With 5% of total population of Sweden being muslims (half million out of their 10 millions total), I guess most of them (or their parents) were refugees, not migrants. Same in Denmark probably.

Read somewhere the other day that Sweden has more people leaving to join ISIS than any other country...

Thornberg has previously cited anecdotal evidence which suggests that
up to 300 Swedes have joined Isis (also known as the Islamic State) and said he also stood by this figure.

Sweden's Security Service, Säpo, has confirmed data suggesting that at least one hundred Swedes have fought alongside Islamist extremists in Iraq and Syria.

                now the greeks threaten germany

Greece’s defence minister has threatened to let masses of Syrian refugees, possibly including terrorists, pass through to Germany.

Europe has only itself to blame if that happens, he said.

And yet we have our universities churning out people when there are no jobs to use that training.

I wonder how many overseas students who use education here as a fast track to residency get jobs their qualifications has actually trained them for ?

An ongoing glut of new teachers causes job search headaches
A glut in new teachers is continuing to cause a tough battle for jobs with as many as 150 applying for single positions, despite a cut in the numbers graduating.

The country's largest union for teachers, the New Zealand Educational Institute, blamed the Ministry of Education for failing to have sufficient oversight on workforce numbers, which caused an unclear future for the profession.
"The number of teachers that are being churned out by universities has no correlation with the demand from the sector," Goulter said.

                    Witch doctors targeting vulnerable Kiwis

Indian witch doctors are arriving in New Zealand on tourist or temporary work visas and duping vulnerable Kiwis into forking out thousands of dollars.

One Auckland man has lost almost $12,000, and after being alerted by 3 News, Immigration New Zealand says it's investigating.
Indian Community Leader Pratima Nand is on a crusade against what she calls "witch doctors". She's gone undercover with 3 News and says they're using New Zealand as a test market.

"They are destroying families, they are sucking people in. A friend of mine has been sucked up to $1400 with no results. Somebody has to take action," she says.

Witchcraft practitioners in south Auckland are not hard to find. In one newspaper alone there were three ads, all offering 100 percent lifelong protection from black magic, money problems and marriage problems.

Most witch doctors are here on tourist or temporary work visas and they advertise hourly on a local Indian TV channel, Apna.
3 News found one healer in south Auckland in a tiny room behind a legitimate clothing store in Otahuhu.

Not that long ago there was a shortage of teachers.
The 'market' doesn't seem to give the appropriate signals. Maybe the Ministry should do more to guide this - they know from census data etc what student numbers are coming up and roughly where they are.

Why are not more resources allocated to putting a stop to these types of immigration scams?
Those assisting them should be prosecuted as well.
Don't we have enough problems in AKL without freely importing more?

                        Witch doctors arrive 'in droves'
The "priests" were preying on vulnerable Indian residents, advertising their "powers" on Indian-language media.
They were running their business in sub-let commercial back rooms they rented from Indian shopkeepers, Nand said.

"It's become very common, it's not good. They're coming in droves. They started coming here very slowly initially 15 years ago. All of a sudden there's an influx of them.

"They are off the streets of India … [and] they have one motive, to suck money out of people, pack their bags and then they're off."
"It's historical, it's part of the culture.
But we don't want that part of the culture coming here [to New Zealand].

"Immigration really needs to detain them.
We are going to write to the Minister of Immigration and ask him to bar these people from coming here."

How the hell did these so called 'witch doctors' get their working visas in the first place??

Maybe they have tourist visas and working here in NZ illegally??
