I have had an experience with this too and what I found was that you can get the council in to check as there's a health and safety issue and then the council can support your claim in Tenancy Tribunal. Good Luck my family was repeatedly ill for the three years we lived in a leaky home and the landlord is not even required by law to tell you prior to you moving in or when you are in residence.
