Rent for two people in one room

We are looking for flatmates for a couple of our rooms, as they are currently not occupied. We have set an amount for one room, plus expenses (water/internet etc), every week, but am unsure how much we should charge for one room for TWO people, my thought is rent*1.5 (for example, again not sure how much we should be charging for this), plus expenses*2... any suggestions would be great

The rent per room should take into account it if is a double or a single. Fix a price on either, and then stick to it. That solves the 'well, they (the extra person) only stayed 2 weeks of the month, but not the other 2 as they went to see family'.
Then when people take it on, they know the score from the off, whether it's one person or two. Good luck with it.

I have a standard double room i do at $155/wk for a single, and if its a couple raise it to $230/wk. An extra $75 per week for that extra person which includes all amenities ,electricity, water ,phone, sky tv etc. If it were any less it simply would not be worth having that extra person.

In my point of view it depends upon room size. area, and what other facilities you are providing. you can also take help by comparing it with similar rooms in your area. it would help you a lot and you can charge reasonable amount of rent.

Not something I've ever done but my initial thoughts are -

          a) every person should pay a standard %age for their electricity. Doesn't matter whether there is one or two in a room.
          b) ditto for water if you're having to bill tenants for it.

If the "2nd" person was in another room by themselves, you'd be charging them the full "single room" rate. So why is it any difference if there's two in a room?? Costs are the same.
          Patience is a virtue.
