    APIA: Tony Alexander 9/5/06

Auckland Property Investors Association - May Meeting

Where to now for the Kiwi Economy?

Tony Alexander talks about the year ahead

After several years of solid and predictable growth the market is no longer so easy to read. The exchange rate is down, interest rates are up (but trending down?), the trade deficit is at record levels - but property just keeps chugging away. Or does it? We're thrilled to have BNZ Chief Economist Tony Alexander as our Guest Speaker in May to give us his views on where the economy might be headed.

After graduating with a first class honours degree from Canterbury University in 1984 Tony spent a couple of years in Sydney before travelling to Wellington with Westpac in 1987 then joining the BNZ in 1993. Tony’s primary role since becoming BNZs Chief Economist has been to provide advice about what is happening with the New Zealand economy - with implications for interest rates and the exchange rate.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear Tony give his views on the economy and how it might impact on the property market.

You're right, can’t see how to get to the previous link from the main home page. They need to tidy things up a bit.

                APIA - Tony Alexander Meeting

Another fantastic APIA Meeting. Tony Alexander delivered an fascinating analysis of the economy now, and gave an insight into where we are heading. The news certainly sounds pretty good, with a steady economy, and only a mild pullback in values in certain areas.

Moving forward from this great event, we hope to see as many people as possible at the APIA Seminar on Sunday 14 May at 8:30am, Waipuna Conference Centre. Information available here.

                Regards
                David

Tony made an interesting prediction which contradicts what others have said.

His prediction is if we dont have a large recession (i.e. it only goes flat for a while, which is what people expect) then there wont be a big boom to follow.
The theory is if we dont have a large recession, then when the time comes for another boom, the economy is already in pretty good shape, so there is not much room left for a big boom, because we will already be resource constrained. i.e. no 'boom of all booms' theory.

However he also said he did not know what the effect of the baby boomers would be.

                    APIA website

Sorry for the confusion Cube. The recently (and much) improved website for APIA is www.apia.org.nz. We are not using the NZPIF hosted pages as much, apart from directing traffic to APIA's own website.
