    Hobsonville Point

Does anyone know anything about this project. It is on the old hobsonville airbase and is being developed by housing NZ.

Surely it isn't all housing NZ houses?
    Can you buy sections there?

I know that a number of the airforce houses are being used by HNZ. Haven't been out at Hobsonville in the light for about 9 months or so so have no idea what is going on now.

          Future slum area?

Shame as it could be very nice there - on the water, new facilities, quick commute (by ferry) to city.

I was there fishing off the wharf over the Xmas break, will be a great place to invest I guess, so many things going for it. The new infrastructure with the motorways are incredible, hadn't been there for several years. What use to be a day trip over to the North shore beaches is only a 10 min drive now, it's great.
So if Captain Crab is correct it may still well be a very good place to invest in, and get in early on if possible.

Does that mean 70% will be unaffordable? Wonder how they plan to make those. Come buy our homes, their unafforable.

This doesn't go anywhere unless you count going on to their newsletter.

Does that also mean you can't buy bare land. Those companies aren't exactly known for their architectural splendor.

Hahahaha, aint that the truth! Although some of the stuff Universal have done in that Lakes subdivision outside Tauranga isnt bad looking

Wait for the showhome maybe or write to them perhaps. Might be a bit late to get bare land.

There was quite an emphasis on environmental impacts durin gthe design process. They are throwing the kitchen sink at the stormwater system and trying to make sure that the majority of houses are within 5 minutes walk (800m) of the commerical district for the first part of the project.

State houses out, but HNZ still in charge - Hobsonville

State houses out, but HNZ still in charge

4:00 AM Wednesday Mar 3, 2010 A state housing business is running the 3000-house Hobsonville Point project despite no state houses being built there.
Hobsonville Land Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Housing NZ Corporation, is leading the planning and delivery of the redevelopment with Australia's AVJennings, which is overseeing the four local builders.
But the Government has pulled back from developing state rental houses on the land, the National-led coalition axing that plan hatched by the Labour-led coalition.
Asked why a Housing NZ Corp business was in charge when no Housing NZ Corp houses were being built, Hobsonville Land Company chief executive Sean Bignell said the overall vision remained in place.
The Government still had a commitment to an affordable housing component at Hobsonville, he said. That was why the business was continuing.
Richard Didsbury, a co-founder of Kiwi Income Property Trust, is chairman of the Hobsonville Land Company/AVJennings Management Committee and Housing NZ Corporation chairman Pat Sneddon is chairman of the Hobsonville Land Company board.
Sections are now being formed in preparation for construction of the first 660 places in the Buckley precinct where earthworks started on October 1 last year.
The Squadron Drive offramp, giving west-bound motorists direct access from the Hobsonville motorway to the new project, is well-formed but yet to be sealed. The bridge over the motorway for the new interchange is in place and the north-facing motorway onramp is under construction.
These earthworks are kicking up as much dust as massive earthmoving equipment at Hobsonville Point, creating the first sections. Five bridges are part of the project: at Hobsonville Road, Trig Road, Brigham Creek Road, Squadron Drive and Totara Creek.
NZ Transport Agency said the $220 million project to create the 6km four-lane Hobsonville motorway was the last section of the new SH18 to be completed.
