    I need a Draughtsman:West AKL Area

    Hi There
I need to find a Draughtsman in the Auckland area (west preferably) that is not going to charge the earth.
We need floor plans and working drawings drawn for the building consent. The actual renovations will only a few grand to complete.
I called 12 out of the Yellowpages on Friday. 2 answered, one estimated $4000 and another $2000.
    Can any one suggest someone?
Has anyone else needed to get drawings done for minor work?
    How much did it cost?

    Hi Reno
Draughtsmen are in the same boat as the rest of building industry. New rules and regs are coming in so quick it is hard to keep up with the changes. Therefore hard to price. So I think a lot of firms are just quoting high to cover their arses. Sorry to say, this is only going to get worse as soon they will be liable if they don’t follow all the regs exactly.

What is it you are doing exactly?

      Hi ya
Wall removal that will create a new lounge next to the kitchen and dining room. Also a wall addition to create a walk-in Wardrobe in the master bedroom.
We have an engineers report and specs along with the floor plan that the council has on record but that isn't metric and isn't enough.
The Council requires a A3 metric floor plan.

        HI Reno,

this is a common problem we have with our clients.

We priced recently work for a new bathroom in an old villa - their costs of works estimated at 10k - the council file was out of date as there had been 3 or 4 renovations - council requirements require all historical works to be brought up to present standards.

This required a full measure up of the entire building etc.

out quote to them was about 8k for the whole job.

We have finished recently a minor internal alteration that had complete files - our drafting costs came to about 4k.

The reason for the cost is the amount of paperwork we need to file for compliance with council regs.

You know its actually about the same cost for a new home BC as it is for an alteration - for councils and for the drafting.

        Hope that helps

        Adrian
