      Hello fudo,

      Welcome back.

Old bungalows = little space between ground and floor= difficult to crawl under=difficult to insulate=but some will do it.

My experience is that there are plenty who will do it and who advertise they will do it. Why not just ring around. Further south you go the more there will probably be.

I always wonder how I can check the workmanship of the ones I've had done, and the simple answer is I cannot unless I get under myself, which I don't want to do.

I once had a 6'2" guy get under a older house for two hours painting borer poison on. How he survived I just don't know. I got under and couldn't get more than 1m from the manhole.

Sorry, this doesb't answer your question directly, but I'd suggest just ring around. I think there can be little difference in the quality, just perhaps in the service and the price.

There is also an ad on the back of the last property mag April 2007 from the ECO commission. They offered 55% subsidies for rental owners.

At work we had a dampness problem. It was solved by pouring "airated concrete" under to a thickness of about 100mm

          I'm in Christchurch.

ECAN (Environment Canterbury - Our Regional Council) have underfloor insulation as part of their Clean Air heating repleacement program.

We had one of our rentals done (1910 villa) under the scheme and they used a reflective foil type insulation which seems to work pretty well. The tenants think it improved draught proofness and helped to lower their heating bills.

One of the things I like about is it isn't hard up against the wooden floor. The polstyrene systems worry me a little as they are relatively new and I've hear whispers of them causing rot after they've been installed for a while.

I'll dig out the bill for the company that did it if anyone is interested.

If you don't live in the Crusaders territory, you can get a list of people who offer this scheme in your area. It is basically run by private companies who tender for funds from EECA.

The current providers are available through their webside
