  • work transfer to Mosgiel, accomodation advice

Hi, was hoping some on here would know the area and could offer advice please.
My daughter who still lives at home, is being transferred by her work to Mosgiel for a year. She is 21, responsible, any advice on places other than trademe to look for a place to live, she's not sure whether she wants to go into an existing flat, boarding, rooms to let, boarding house type thing, etc.
Anything she should look out for?
    Thanks in advance.

we've just finished a tidy up Reno on a 3br in South Dunedin - the intent is it sell in early Jan. Not on market yet...

If your daughter bought a place and rented out the 2 rooms she'd likely cover the mortgage on P&I. One year transfers have a tendency to become multi years and before you know it 5 years...

    PM me if you're interested

Thank you, but no to buying, it is definitely only a one year transfer, then she moves to another location.

Thanks Nick, if she stays in Dunedin is there any other area's she should stay away from? We are in Auckland and only ever rented a normal flat many years ago, so this is definitely new to us.
If she looks at say Boarding house/rooms to let type accomodation is there anything in particular to watch out for?
The guy she is taking over from has given her info on 94 Stafford Street and 12 Sutherland St in Dunedin, so thats a start.

Google has come up with this site, so could be useful, to tell us what some streets are like if nothing else. She doesn't want to be near partying uni students.

Just stay away from North Dunedin or within 2km of the uni. Anywhere around the octagon or further south is fine. The valley north is famous for being cold and damp.

It can be tricky driving on the hills in icy conditions so bear that in mind. Accommodation is affordable and there is plenty of it so be picky and look for something with good sun, insulation and ventilation. A lot of the places will be on annual lets do get in touch with a property management company like Click and have a chat about what will be available and when.

Sensible footwear with woolly socks on icy days!
