  • Can we use water from creek behind house

Hi Guys, thanks for everyones comments on my posts - really appreciate all the wealth of knowledge out there! Here goes another one....we have bought a home with a creek running out the back of the property (supposedly ours) but not too sure, are we able to use that water for irrigation, not for consumption as we are on tank water and don't want to use all the water from the tank. Area is Franklin. Thanks in advance

probably have to pay the local iwi to move the taniphar down stream a bit, a good spot would be next to the roadworks

You'd have to keep it a secret.
There's bound to be a hundred rules or more against it.

If you do source water from a stream, you'll also need to use some sort of filter like this or your pump will crap out when weeds block it.

So the answer is yes but don't make it obvious.
            When asked just plead ignorance

Did you know that another name for giardia in North America is "Beaver Fever"? If you decide to top up the tanks during the odd summer dry-spell (I know it'd be tempting) and you later find you have this insatiable urge to gnaw at the trucks of trees, go and see the quack immediately.

As Leslie Neilsen once said to Prescilla Presley.. "Nice beaver!".

I know the Waikato district council allows 15m3 per title, per day to be taken for stock or human consumption.
Irrigation would technically require resource consent, but depending what area of Franklin you are in, and how nosey your neighbours are, then you could probably get away with it
