    I was reading through the opening post and thought pretty much immediately you might get rejected by both. Sorry to hear it. I think the contents insurer is on pretty thin ice and I'd go through the complaints process with them.

      Yes, that's where it is heading I feel. AMI are always a hassle now since the earthquakes. I think they will just fold once the complaints process starts.

        All comes down to the wording of the policy in the end.

          To me, this was clear.

          AMI Contents policy.
          NOT covered;
          "– fixtures or fittings permanently attached to your house or any building."

          AMI Home policy (which I do not have)
          NOT Covered;
          "– fixtures or fittings that are not permanently attached"

            Finally an update!

            BNZ came back with the report from the assessor.
            Damage to units is not covered by home policy, recommended contents cover on items. He provided me a report to give to AMI detailing this.

            Presented to AMI and they finally agreed to pay. But they would pay the amount I paid for the units, not replacement value.
            According to their policy it should be "replacement value", but I think they have finally succeeded in wasting my time so much that I have accepted it.
