What is up with the selwyn district council

I was probably one of the few against the Selwyn district councils head quarters move from Leeston to Rolleston. Rolleston is just a suburb of Christchurch in my mind. I think it was mainly the CEOs desire the pushed the move forward. The problem for me is that A rural council based in a city suburb is less likely to understand the needs of Rural Communities.

There is also the issue of cost my rates now are higher than that for a similarly values property in Christchurch. Even more interesting is the current RV were conducted in July 2006 the next was due July 2009, yet nothing seems to have happened. Any one know when the valuations will be done. ( I suspect the council is delaying them for fear the rural property values have dropped
The mission of any business enterprise should include the aim to develop economic conditions rather than simply react to them.

I dont think its necessarily a bad idea. Southland District Council runs its head office in invercargill a city that isnt even part of its territory and while there are negatives as well as postivies i dont think a lack of understanding of the rural community is one of the outcomes.

The outcome of your rates bill has nothing to do with that of christchurch.
The rates are set by Selwyn based on them budgeting in their LTCCP and annual plan that they will require X dollars. Then for services that arent a fixed charge they use the valuation of a property to work out what percentage of that X dollars you will contribute. The council will not collect less money if a property is worth less it will collect the same amount of money the values just affect who pays how much of that figure they wish to collect.
