Being logged off and losing posts

From past experience I usually write my posts on a word document and save them, then copy and paste onto this site and post the message.

This is because occassionally I type straight in and post, and sometimes when I do this, especially if I have been logged on for more than five miniutes while typing, I am logged off and my post does not go through, which is what has just happened. Worst of all I can see no way of saving it in case this happens and my message is lost forever. Am I alone in finding this and being exasperated, and is there a simple solution?

It used to be a common prob awhile back I thought the timeout was fixed.

With you on that one Xris, although now when writing a post, I highlight and copy the text just before submitting. You may need to log back on, but can dump your post back in and re-submit.

Been there, done that - I've lost a few posts in the past. And you all know the length of some of my posts - just imagine the ones that were lost. I'm learning to keep my posts shorter these days. (So perhaps there is a silver lining to this dark cloud?)

Happened to me a few times and in desperation I tried hitting the Back Arrow a few times up on the toolbar/thingy.
And, believe it or not, I found my 'typed but not posted' effort which I promptly copied and managed to post.
          Worth a try anyway.

            Hi all,

I've not noticed that problem, then most of my posts are short and to the point

In fact, I don't remember the last time I had to log in - I seem to be logged in whenever I return to PT.

Thanks for all your ideas. It looks as though I am not alone in having this problem. I seem to have developed the same system as SuperDad which I will probably continue to use. It takes a little longer but it is safe and I can plan my messages without being on edge through being under perceived time pressure.

I haven't had this problem, either.

I'll bring this to Sarah's attention.. maybe there is some setting somewhere she can change. (I have also moved this thread to 'Forum Help'. :-)

                      Hi

Thanks BL for giving me a heads up...

Donna has kept me up to date with other logging out issues and there doesn't appear to be anything in the server specifically making it happen and that's pretty frustrating.

When you login you get the option to check a "remember me" flag - and you're all doing that right?

For those of you who don't use that setting (shared computers, internet cafes) I've increased the timeout to an hour. That will take effect from the next time you login

I'll be watching this thread so please keep posting when you have problems.

                      Sarah

new post buttons do not seem to show new posts properly anymore . (Happened sometime this morning)
still shows threads and posts I read over 2 hrs ago in bold.

One hour I could understand, more than that is odd. The new posts thing is tied into the session time... which is now an hour.
