  • What discount off the floating interest rate mortgage have you gotten from banks?

I was getting 0.65% discount from current floating interest rates on a revolving mortgage loan of $600k .The discount was in place for up to 2 years; subject to review after that. Just recently my bank told me they are unable to offer me that same level of discount again.
I have several rental properties and feel quite stumped why the level of discount is now not being made available. Bank told me that level of discount is now unheard of . At the time I knew it was a good deal & was told by the initiating loans organiser that there should be no problem in it being available again for the subsequent 2 years .Now i find this is not the case.

What level of discount is anyone here receiving off the standard advertised rates? Particularly would like to hear from the guys on floating interest rates.

I just received notification from ASB that they are extending my discount of 0.6%pa off the floating rate until 2016. I did not ask or even discuss any rate options with them ahead of this or the OCR increase. My lending is $465K + $120K revolving credit. Hope they don't change their mind....

I got the same letter from ASB this week with around 300k revolving credit, my rate went from 5.15 to 5.4%.

Hi, Some banks do throw that carrot of a chunky revolving discount but only valid for 1-2 years. If your LVR is low (below 80%) and loan size high you can always advise your bank you will be reviewing your options in the same manner they have reviewed their discount.

Good call. I have yet to find out what the new discounted rate is .I have already a 50% LVR established ;when i first took out the loan it was only 20% LVR. Kiwibank are telling me i need to move all my business over with them for better consideration of discounts. I told them it would make no difference to them financially as all of my income from rents i automatically transfer over to them as offset against the revolving loan, keeping only around $1000 balance in my other banks in order to pay credit cards balances etc. When i mentioned credit card they said they would like me to get a kiwibank one too.
I asked what "air points" system it used. I was told Air New Zealand when i prompted that with "I prefer Qantas" remark she said no one had ever said that to her before. Talk about "defensive"!
This is Kiwibank i have found over the years they are quite "socialist" in nature. Tending not to be "business friendly" so much as the other banks.

The originator of my Kiwibank loan has come back to me now and said he will extend the offer of the 0.65% discount for another 2 years , i'm pleased at this ,he is a gold nugget for kiwibank .I'll put a plug in for him here as i find he has been the best loans facilitator i have dealt with at Kiwibank by far ,contact Adrian on 0272805713.
I have increased my business leverage with them in order to still get this great deal.
