    Who wants to be motivated?

    Hi Guys

A very thoughtful look at what motivation and becoming motivated means:

Motivation is an emotion that many think can be bought and sold.

That's why so many people read 'motivating' books, attend 'motivational' seminars or look for 'motivation' in their daily lives.

But none of that is truth.

In reality motivation is an emotional choice. Any of us can choose it at any time we want.

That's why some people in the most unfavourable circumstances can mysteriously remain motivated. And many in the most favourable cannot. Some people are motivated by seeing the sun every morning, and others remain unmotivated even when provided with the strongest incentives.

Choose to be motivated, use the tools, geegaws and gadgets that fool your subconscious into being motivated if you need to.

But always remember that being motivated is your choice, not imposed on you by application of an outside influence.

Never let these external influences become a crutch that psychologically you believe is required to motivate you.

In the long run that reliance can reduce independence and turn individuals into addicts (ie: seminar junkies).

Internalise your motivation, certainly use 'triggers' when needed to kick your mind back onto the right track, but don't let the triggers become addictions.

Totally agree with that. It's amazing how many people go through life like it happens to them rather than them creating it.

      Hi muppet!

      Very good quote

It's a pity to see that people prefer just to float thinking that not sinking is already good enough. Swimming is easy and rather exciting

I was going to be motivated today, but by the time I dragged myself out of bed it was too late.

It is never too late to be motivated, Julian! Make it up today - be double motivated

I am motivated every day: I get up at 5, go to gym, to work, to gym again, study, sleep and all over again next day. Last weekend I actually did it and finaly went out to look for houses, saw a few and found it quite an entertaining thing to do. I guess it won't be that exciting anymore after a few weekends in a row but I am going to keep myself MOTIVATED!

          Good luck!

            Oopsick,

I was (unsuccessfully) endeavouring to inject a bit of levity into the thread.
I will hitherto refrain from such absurdity.

That said, I do admire your level of drive and enthusiasm, which by comparison does make me look somewhat lethargic.

May I suggest that motivation is not an emotion.
Motivation that lasts comes from knowing who you are and where you want to go.
If you clearly define your goals it is easier to be motivated.
If you generally don't feel good about yourself that will always affect your ability to energise yourself.
So many people can't choose to be motivated because they are damaged in their emotions. They need help to get healed emotionally. Then they can choose with an act of their will. Our will is where motivation comes from. I have seen many many people set free form emotional chains and never look back again. They are suddenly free to choose what they want, rather than being controlled by past events, dysfunctional prents or theri current circumstances.
Believeing that I am of value, I have a purpose and I can make a positive contribution to this world is what motivates me to get up everyday. Nothing to do with my emotions. I might be sad or angry but I still know I'm of value and I have a dream and a goal to achieve.

                    Motivation....the big idea

Motivation in my life comes through planning...yipee I know, it should be exciting and invigorating...and it can be but I find if I can dream of what I want to achieve its a step, but I become motivated when I plan step by step how I will achieve this end. That is when it gets exciting and motivation sets in because I can see the next challenge ahead without that feeling of 'lost' or confusion as to the next phase or move but it is within reach...how do you eat an elephant...

It's not magic but its the realisation that I can achieve...and that is motivating in itself.
But in saying that HOLY CRAP SOME DAYS ARE TOUGH!
This is a great site for motivation, and there ends my 2 cents...soon to be $2 bucks worth..on my way!

                      Dean (pooomba),

I get enthused and fired up by hearing of others that have created, or are in the process of creating, an amazing life for themselves.

There have been and still are some fantastically motivating posters here on this site. I have been fortunate in meeting some of them.

I get the impression you have a pretty exciting story to tell if you care to share it.

I was excited last night attending a commercial property group meeting. I learned how a guy collected intelligence simply by walking down the street and asking every shop two simple questions (words according to my memory):

How much rent are you paying?
How much do you think the vacant shop down there can rent?

The vacant one was the one he was interested in buying.

Another lady talked about geting tremendous advantage by casually asking an electrician who happend to part his van in front of the building she was interested in buying. He did not work on the building but he just happened to know the plumber who did, and... the plumber told him that the there was a drainage problem in the building!!!

Top quality intelligence for free, only if you ask.

Hmmmmm.... Very true, but too bad if the Plumber was buying the property himself. (I say this because I had an sparky friend who happened to rewire an IP he purchased)

                          Cheers Ron

                            Hi Julian,
I guess I feel like I'm wasting space talking about myself but a brief history here.
I planned on changing the world and being a millionaire at 25.
Instead I had my 16th birthday in prison and went bankrupt at 25!!
Years of "life" and personal development later I purchased a couple of IP's without knowing what I was doing. Eventually after a long evening talking to Phil and Corinne Jones my wife and I attended an academy.
I finished work the Monday after the academy and have invested full time ever since. Between October of 2004 and today I've purchased 18 properties and am building 2 speccys in West Auckland.
I have a portfolio of over 4 million dollars with over 1.5 in equity and I'll never have to work again.
I achieved this by averaging about 40 offers a week and spending about 50 to 60 hours a week looking at deals.
I seem to have a natural eye for spotting a deal witha twist and I've learned how to negotiate deals so the vendor always thinks he's won and I always end up with a bargain.
Now that I don't have to work I spend quite a bit of time mentoring other investors and as a result of my success Lisa Dudson, author of "The complete guide to New Zealand Residential Property Investment" asked me to head up her property division. In that role I do a lot of adult education, training courses etc. Property is totally my "thing", (next to God), and I love helping others succeed!!
I believe I succeeded because I took action and believed in my goal, even when those around me told me I was nuts!!

So there you go that's the brief version. Happy to supply more details and things I've learnt if anyone wants to know!!
