    Hi,

    1) Real Estate Riches - Dolf de Roos
    2) Your investment property - Anita Bell
    3) $1,000,000 in Property in One Year - Steve McKnight
    4) NZ Real Estate Investors Secrets - Gramae Fowler
    5) NZ Property Magazine - I know it's not a book but is a must have.

I have to mention The Millionaire Next Door by Stanley and Danko and Money Secrets of the Rich by John Burley (doesn't solely focus on property but awesome reads).

Have only read a handful, and of those really rate 2:

Graeme's - great to see the stories of different ways people have done it rather then be told "this is the way".

Kieran's Grow Rich with the Property Cycle - Critical for those of us who haven't been through the full cycle.

              Hi folks,

I want to buy three books this week to help me on my mission to buy an IP.

              I thought of :

              1) Residential property investment in New Zealand - Lisa Dudrow and Andrew King

              2) Property Tax - A new Zealand investor Guide (Revised version) - Mark Withers

              3) NZ Real Estate Investors Secrets - Graeme Fowler

Are these the three best books to suit my needs do you think? As a starting point that is.

              Thanks

              Lawrence

PS. what is the difference in Mark Withers first book and his second on Property Tax in NZ? I sent his office an email but never got a response.

                Hmmm.

As a starting point I'd keep the first one, and then Dolf de Roos (Real estate riches) and Anita Bell (Your investment property).

                Thats just me though....

Oh and I flicked through my copy of Property Tax. Can't see anything specially mentioned as added but as an updated edition, would assume any recent accounting changes would be incorporated into the material in the book.

                  Hi Lawrence

As a first time landlord you should add either Frank Newman's book or Frank Saxton's book on landlording.
                  I prefer Frank Saxton's book.

                  Regards

                          Hi Lawrence

Another new book which I like is Working Landlord, Happy Tenants by Roger Clist.

As he says in the Introduction:
Books on property investment fill a shelf in a good bookshop. I've bought most of them, and usually read them from cover to cover to expand my knowledge of the topic. If I glean even just one tip which improves my skills as a landlord and retirement-planning investor, my purchase is worthwhile.
So Lawrence, beg, borrow or whatever any property books, read and see if it helps you in your understanding of property investing. If so add it to your library.

                          Regards

As ususal I bow to the wise words of Muppet...

I have just finished reading Working Landlord, Happy Tenants by Roger Clist.

It is a very good read and one I could have used 2 years ago. I recommend it to every one. Good practical advise on most things to assist new Property investors/Landlords.

Others I recommend are Orions book "NZ Real Estate Investors Secrets". What I particularly like about it is the fact that we can fail and he freely admits getting it wrong initially. But don't stop learn from the mistakes and start again.....

Residential property investment in New Zealand - Lisa Dudrow and Andrew King. It is a good practicale read and easy to understand. It should read with their (or is it just Andrew's) other book Planning for residentil investment ( I think thats the title .. I'm not at home at the moment.)

Grow Rich with the Property Cycle by Keiran is a good read as well. I know that some people think it reads like an informercial. I don't agree. He assists with taking the pressure off if you think you are making a mistake. Care obviously still needs to be taken but property is a forgiving investment given time. I certainly needed that sort of advice when I started. Scary times

I'm allowed one more? Damn thats hard. There are so many good books available today.

How about Rich Dad poor dad. I realise that he has been the recipient of a lot of negative feedback. Lies told in the book etc... However look beneath that at the message... I think the concepts he is trying to impart are very good

I personally suggest you don't limit yourself. Always read always learn. Debate everything. The more informed you are the more informed your decisions are likely to be.

                            Happy Hunting
Counter cyclic means always swimming against the tide

Can't resist adding one more to my list: Roger Hamilton Wink and Grow Rich.

Just received my copy today and have devoured it from cover to cover. I can't believe I've been spending my time on my job for so long.
