Researching Towns

Hi Guys,
Can anyone pls tell me what sites to look at when researching a town. Im trying to find out the industries and employment etc for certain towns. Any help on how to research a town would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi Mitzu

I use the internet as we live off shore and use the following process (in no particular order)

# find out what district council your town/ city is in and go to their web site. Dont forget groups like ARC and Environment Waikato as they have some very important information for investors
# look under the relivant government departments to source such information as unemployment etc
# look on a map to get the layout of public amenities etc
# nothing beats talking to people in the area by making phone calls to property managers, the police, and other such individuals. If you are in town chatting to the locals helps a lot also.
# Dont forget to ask on this forum. You will get plenty of useful information from members.

Thank you Tamara and Muppet. I have looked at the sites suggested and have got most the information I needed. I would just like to know what the district Council for Tokorua is. I see you have posted alot of information on Tokorua Muppet but I couldn't find any of the finer details about this area. Good location etc.

Council web sites will always give a positive view of themselves. Read into that what you will.

I agree with muppet regarding the information given out by councils. That is why I try and ask questions people who live in the location that I am looking at.
