  • H Cap on gas flue - does it reduce noise

We live in a really windy spot & the wind across the top of our circular gas flue creates a real racket in our lounge on windy days. I gather the only options for gas flues are round or h cap. We've had a quote for installing an h cap, but before we commit to the spend, I'm trying to find out if anyone has experience of h cap style flues in really windy places, & how noisy they are. Or if anyone knows of a company that would be able to advise on this.

    Thanks

Is the noise a metallic rattling or a whistle of wind noise?
Sorry to say the lack of choice for you is simply due to the tiny market NZ is. In Europe you will find all manner of shapes designs and material types to try. There is no specific answer to your dilemma apart from seeing if a plumber will install one as a trial. Its not a big task, half an hour and a few screws at most. The caps are really to stop rain going down the tube. If you really want to get adventurous google the UK gas websites and see the number of choices you have even to the extent of discharging your flue out through a sidewall and getting it away from the windiest part of the house. Any good sheetmetal worker could copy any of the overseas designs if you found something worth experimenting with.
