What's the age-spread of forum members? I was going
    to say actual property-rental-income-receiving forum
members, but wondered if that might unintentionally
exclude some people? So, if you're a forum member:

My average age? It depends on how I feel when I wake up in the morning!!

Maybe you need to do it as a poll? That might be easier to compile the results...

I'm a slow typist, sorry. The poll took longer for me to
post than the initial explanation! (It's my first time )

That was lucky. A few more months and I would have been in the next bracket. Phew

hmmm, what to make of the lack of votes for 56 years and older...

                Reluctance to vote?
Baby Boomers yet to discover IP as an investment vehicle?
                Lack of internet connectivity?
'Old School' landlords being a bit above all of this information sharing?

Have they cashed up and got out?

Were they of the era of one job per lifetime then retire
                  on the pension viewpoint?

Don't know about the Property Talk Forum?

Made enough to hand it all over to an estate/property manager
and "gone cruising?" Permanantly. Cheaper than a retirement
                  home, I'm told.

The lagging of the 46-55 is intriguing, especially as that
group is even behind the 56+ group.

Ahh, well, lies, damned lies & statistics is what 'they' say.

                      Thread Stuck

                      Hi All,

I've made this thread a 'sticky'. Thanks a lot for starting the thread (Perry) and suggesting the poll.....(Busylizzy)

                      Cheers,

                      Donna

Just to put this in the context of other recent research...

The results of the 2006 ANZ/NZPIF survey were published in the April 2006 issue of the NZ Property Magazine. While they didn't give a breakdown of the ages of respondants, the "average investor" is apparently aged 50-59, and is male.

The results of the 2006 KPI/BankDirect investors survey were published in the June 2006 issue of the KPI magazine. Here is the breakdown:

                        Under 31: 17.8%
                        31-40: 41%
                        41-50: 26.2%
                        51-60: 13.1%
                        61+: 1.9%

Can any conclusions be drawn from these results, coupled with the results of the above poll? Well, it seems that the KPI results might be closer to those of the present poll than were the NZPM results.

Perry - what were you seking to find out with your poll, or is it just an "interest poll"?

I'm certainly surprised that so many of the respondants to the above poll are in "my" age bracket, 26-35. I always thought that property investment was for the forty somethings (paid down a good chunk of the loan on one's PPOR, kids about to leave home, good incomes). But perhaps the results of the above poll reflect the higher technology uptake amongst the "young guns"?

                        Paul.

Perry's own thread title is 'PTalkers Age Averages'.

We are a subset of investors - reasonably active, reasonably educated and reasonably internet savvy.

I am happy to be representing the under 25 minority - we need more young people to start thinking about buying investment property and get them off student debt and "boyracer" cars etc etc
