Now you can buy virtual real estate through weblo.com. Founded by Rocky Mirza and Richard Rosenblatt , it took Rocky Mirza 9 years to convince investors he was not crazy, however he says he has recently raised $US2.6million in private equity funding to build the site. Weblo claims thousands of members have joined in the first two months.
According to the site it “offers you the exciting opportunity of owning absolutely any property that exists in the real world - well, a cyber copy of it, that is! Buy and sell cities, states, airports, historical places, buildings, even your home. But you have to be the first to get it on Weblo! Own cities and states and you'll become the Mayor or Governor, you might even become the President of your country. Get paid for advertising revenues generated from your properties”.
Basic membership is free but to access all the functions there is a $US269 annual fee. Before one can buy properties members must first put money in their Weblo account. Sale profits are transferred to the player's PayPal account as properties change hands. Once a property is in a private portfolio, it also earns pay-per-click commission on the ads that automatically appear on the property's dedicated page.
