Ditto what Whitt has said. We had Chat in the earlier version of PropertyTalk and it was ineffective when more than 3 people were online.....not to mention users having to work around their schedule to be online at a certain time...and with RM's recent experience with Chat - being disappointed when technical difficulties are experienced.

Never say never though - if our community say they want it - we will deliver .

    Cheers,

I think the idea is to make the chat facility available.
If some people wanted to use it - then let them.
    It wouldn't be compulsory.
If you make it available and no-one uses it - what harm have you done? And if it's used a few times - that's a gain.

You still have your forums to do your postings.
    No-one will lose anything.

Forget about the 'global RM chatshow at 7:30pm' type events - it's the wrong use for chat.
It's for a few people to quickly trade information. Just like a phone call is quicker and more convenient than writing a letter.

The value in PT forums is about still being part of the conversation after it has happened. With chat you have to be there on the spot at the time. With forums you can contribute when it suits, and the trail lingers (in a good way of course ) on afterwards for everyone else to read.

I've tried teaching via chat, tends to be a fairly useless environment, good for one on ones, rubbish for may participants.

And timing is what makes it a hassle.

Would as an alternative it be possible to set up an instant messager type function that when a PT member is on PT allows you to message them (I think Google are giving this sort of thing away at the moment) and invite them to take part in a chat?

Skype is fun, also great is the saving on toll calls nationally and internationally, can even conference call with people up to four people I think.

Feel free to add me to your contact list if you have Skype, just hit the grey Skype icon under the Posts: count.

IMO we dont need chatting in PT. keep focusing in this forum is the best. yeah using SKype, MSN or YIM are good options though.
