relocating house and garage

i'm relocating house and garage on same section to subdivide... can anyone tell me what the minimum space between house and garage can be? i have two options for the garage, relocate on piles or onto an existing concrete pad [not ideal as it will block some sun]. has anyone relocated a garage onto piles before? if so what are the pitfalls to watch for?

This shouldn't be a major problem just as long as it's designed properly. Don't use particle board flooring, use tanalised plywood, I'm sure that's a requirement though. I've built a garage where half of the garage had a concrete floor and the other half was on 3 metre poles with a wooden floor..... worked ok.
