On a different property, I have excavated around a deck and now the fall height is over the 1.5m limit, therefore the deck now requires consent. I have a solution, which is to convert this deck area to a sunroom, removing the fall risk. Since I'm doing that, I figure why not use the area below the sunroom for a workshop? Minor problem, it will be only 1.7m high. Second issue is retaining wall in this area would need to be waterproof. So I'm thinking a block wall.
Can I do all this without consent? As far as I can tell, a detached building under 10m2 needs no consent. I can also build a sunroom 5m2 (net floor area, raised bed platforms additional) which then attaches to the house...
