  • The Pyramids, the worlds biggest road cones?

You know your empire has a food surplus when you can afford to build large public works.

(Like the transport system in Auckland city or the Egyptian pyramids).

Do you suppose the pyramids were a way to keep the harvest labor busy, at quiet times of the agricultural calendar?

Maybe the public works were practical at first, but once all the streets and houses were built, less practical projects were necessary?

On a side note, do you suppose Greek geometry based devotions and religious beliefs had permeated into the magicians of the Egyptian empire?
(I've heard of complaints of a subversion of the old Egyptian gods buy a new Magic).
Resulting in a bunch of huge geometric shapes, rather than a giant sphinx, for example?

    Afterthought:
There are vague parallels to this and Quants invading Wall Street.
