  • Investing hot spots in NZ?

Hi all, just wondering what areas are good to invest in NZ at the moment or to keep an eye on? We stopped investing 6 years ago and now want to continue. We would be looking at a mid to lower end of the market.

Whangarei. Port moving, plenty of jobs, rents unaffected

      Wellington's a good bet, it's got Gov't.

What is an investing hot spot?

Do you want an area that has just jumped in value, so will probably be flat for a while?

Do you want everyone's guess on speculation and the next big thing?

If you are looking to buy as long term investment, I personally like to concentrate a lot more on long term sustainability. Buying a rental that really works well for you long term. Maybe has ability to add value, and also with good cashflow. I like bigger populations, so more jobs, more tenants, more possible buyers, less risk of large unemployment based on one employer.

Otherwise you can end up with a short term gain, but long term pain.

I don't think a large population matters so much if your tenants are beneficiaries. You can get market rent, and (in my experience it's always paid), plus no issues with loss of job etc. Just a thought!

          cheers,
