    Questions for PT Forumites.

    What's essential and what's not?

    Encapsulated perhaps by the old adage:

    * Must have
    * Should have
    * Could have

    What have you gone without during the lock-down?

    What have you "made do with" during the lock-down?

    What has continued largely the same, during lock-down?

    What have you been doing (keeping busy with), during lock-down?

    When times are tough, what things - 'luxury' things - have you and others in your bubble dropped off the "must have" list?

    Booze; baccy; takeaways; buying stuff.

    Yet I see the the media (and the Tooth Fairy) going on about takeaways, their availability and how to get them.

    Leaving aside concerns for those businesses and their staff, why is the nation and the media in any way at all pondering the diverse difficulties of obtaining the next lot of takeaways? Discretionary spending? Seems not.

    Presuming 80% of normal wage / salary, such things should not be on the family's shopping list, at all.

    Or is it me that's mad?

      Ouch. That must've been awkward, to say the least.

            I did lockdown at my parents as my wife is in Japan and I have a 9 year old lad. Two retired school teachers with a huge garden is a good deal.

            I've always been naturally frugal and try to carry a high financial buffer so when times are tough I just carry on. Property has been good to me but I cruise around in a second hand old Mazda. I just don't care about a lot of "must haves".

            The fun thing was I only made the decision to go to Mum's at the last minute so threw some clothes into a bag for each of us. I wound up taking less clothes than I'd normally back for a week away and it's been fine.

            I miss great coffee and coming out of this I'll be buying a high-end coffee machine and a really good mountain bike. I have an aero-press which has served me well for nearly 10 years and it's time to lift my game. Other than that I can't wait to go on a couple of treks and start riding again.

            I have spinal curvature so have been frequenting chiropractors for more than a decade as some sports activities and a lot of desk work took their toll. Since all that got shut down I went online and found a specific yoga course for back pain and hip issues and that has been great, I may never have to go to a chiropractor again

              I hear tell that there are faecesbook pages dedicated to early-starters outside Krummy Fried Crap and MacMalNutrition, for tomorrow. Or rather, midnight, tonight - when the queues begin.

              In a stark variation of the loaves and fishes parable, maybe Messiah Comrade Cindy will turn up somewhere, handing out WINZ 'food' vouchers (or taxpayer cash) to those poor, starving, queuing, manna-seeking, cargo-cultist, Labour-voting multitudes?

              Madness! Absolute madness!

                The few pictures I've seen so far indicate that people - middle-aged and over did retain their senses.

                  Great post Nick.

                  Yeah I love my bike - it's not flash - a hard tail but in Kapiti - it's mostly flat and it has amazing long gravel tracks. Plus with lockdown - no traffic on the roads, it's been amazing riding for 45mins each morning.

                  What have you gone without during the lock-down?

                  Like everyone else restricted movement and needing to keep the dogs on the lead so we couldn't go to the beach with them. But that's all changed with level 3.

                  I'm missing my electric desk - that's in the office and I'm working off the dining table so it's not ergonomic and standing up and working rather than sitting down all the time is really good.

                  What have you "made do with" during the lock-down?

                  Filtered coffee as my coffee machine is in the office.

                  What has continued largely the same, during lock-down?

                  We're not big on socialising so staying in of the evenings is the same as before. Though we're looking forward to getting out with some friends soon.

                  What have you been doing (keeping busy with), during lock-down?

                  Working and spending more time on PropertyTalk. The garden is looking better though that's a big work in progress. Bike rides. Dog walks

                  When times are tough, what things - 'luxury' things - have you and others in your bubble dropped off the "must have" list?

                  This is an interesting question. Travel is our luxury and we'd planned a UK trip at the end of this year - that's now off our list.

                  Marc's used to be a chef many years ago (before he swapped to software development and onto other things) so what's been great is his bread. We don't buy bread now.

                  Moore Wilsons - it will be hard to go without some treats.

                  cheers,

                  Donna

                    More Insanity

                    Burgerfuel 'failed' to make out-on-the-street customers maintain social distances.

                    People fail to do something outside on the footpath - a public place - an area outside the retailer's control, yet it's the retailer's fault. Typical socialist Cindy response! It's always somebody else's fault.

                    Insanity simply does not describe it adequately.

                    I wonder how many of those in the queues are among the LLs are all 'rich p****s' category? Comrade Commissar Cullen, Clark & Cindy would be proud of them all.

                      Is it wrong to presume all those that lined up for maccas,kfc,burger fuel to pollute their bodies with extra salt and preservatives are the same people who stockpiled toilet paper in preparation for the coronavirus which could have affected their health?
