  • Parliamentary Petition - Ringfencing

NZPIF have created a petition on the parliament website to delay the implementation of ring-fencing of rental property tax losses.

The petition urges the Government to delay by at least a year implementing the portion of the Taxation (Annual Rates for 2019–20, GST Offshore Supplier Registration, and Remedial Matters) Act that relates to ring-fencing of residential rental property tax losses.

In light of the economic challenges of COVID-19 and higher requirements for landlords to wear rent arrears (from 21 days to 60 days) with no right to terminate a tenancy, we ask that Parliament asks the Government to consider delaying the ring-fencing of residential rental property tax losses by at least a year to give landlords the breathing space we need to support our tenants through these challenging times.

At a time when many property owners to working with tenants and lower rents in some situations, or perhaps writing off large amounts of rent altogether, this makes complete sense.

The Petition is open now and closes on 31st May.

I think there is something wrong with that link.
Need to go to the page where you enter name & email.
Not that clever to automatically know who you are - yet.

It seem too good to be true, especially for a gummint web site.

I have amended the link text in Peter's post.

Clicking on that takes one direct to the signatory page.

While the direct link is useful, I have long made it a personal policy to always read what i am signing.
Unfortunately the signing page doesnt have any details of what it is you are signing for and no link back to the start.
For those of a like mind, here is the petition
Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.

It seems landlords are getting a raw deal as usual - any reason to make life hard for LL. Could we not propose Rent Subsidy Scheme (to match the Wage Subsidy Scheme), which would provide a rent top up for landlords like everybody else?

NZPIA/APIA should look at bolstering the number to give more ammunition.

Do you have any group membership intakes right now ? I know you have in the past .

Doesn't apply to rental properties. And it's not a holiday - cost is just added to the mortgage.

What stone do you live under?

Depending on what's to be believed, tenants don't have to pay rent if they can't and they won't be evicted for borrowing money from LLs. I.e. Borrowing from LLs without permission, without interest, without obligation and without penalty.

                            Have a look here.

Unsurprisingly, there are no penalties for residential tenants who "break the rules." Read on . . .

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has said she wants the names of landlords breaking the rules.
Socialist Cindy has no interest in the names of tenants breaking the rules. Hell, no. Neither does the Tenancy Services Compliance & Investigation anti-LL hatchet crowd. (You'll find proof of that on these forums, if you're motivated to look for it.)

"Where that is not the case, I want to know about it," she said.
But where that it is the case, socialist Cindy doesn't want to know about LL's compassion. [Cough, choke, gasp, wheeze.]

Keep in mind that it took three weeks and shaming by the private sector before socialist Cindy and the other pigs scoffing at the taxpayer-funded trough thought it might 'look good' to take a six-month 20% pay cut.

                            Get a life, Bassai.
