  • Skycity unhappy with delays

The recent SkyCity annual report noted the convention centre and hotel project was the subject of "unacceptable and costly delays" and was proceeding slower than previously indicated.

Someone must have put a blowtorch to the job to speed it up !

They've got a bit more to worry about with the fire.

    cheers,

why do I keep thinking of that ancient Tony Christie song (Hey Las Vegas).

… and possibly line 6 of the 5th verse of American Pie.

It's still burning at 1pm today. 24 hours or so since it started.

This is a $700m building that will have to be gutted.

It's a huge issue with large parts of the CBD shutdown, many tradies will be laid off, and I bet insurance premiums raised a bit for everyone so the insurance companies can get their money back.
        Squadly dinky do!

and the tradie who left the blow touch on who'd want to be him! Did he have professional indemnity insurance - isn't it a must in construction? Glad my house build is complete - maybe it's that type of insurance that will see the premiums go sky high.

          cheers,

Even if this is the case, there needs to be robust measures in the construction system to limit potential accidental damage. Which seems to have been missing in this unfortunate case. But no doubt they'll try to pin it on a scapegoat. Which is just a further system failure.

Which is where all this greenie, conservation rubbish goes wrong.
Straw in a roof? Thought that only happened in fairy tales.
                What could go wrong?
Another example is those 6-star energy efficient buildings in Wellington that the greenies loved to talk about.
After the earthquake those new buildings were demolished.
Oops, so busy setting up the energy efficient stuff that they forgot about earthquakes.

Good luck with the insurance claim - negligence and irresponsible comes to mind - 2 words insurance companies love to dish out
