Vendor risk double commission if listing with multiple agencies?

I was asking around about listing my property and an agent told me I would be risking paying double commission if I list with multiple agencies.
Is that true?

It depends on the wording in the contract you sign.

They all want a sole agency.
And will try very hard to sell you on Auctioning it.
General listing with as many agents as you like is fine - you might even sell it yourself.
