Default Is demolition our only option?

We have a property that we are looking to rebuild on (demo/build new) late next year. The house is a 1970s house in reasonably good condition for the age. I contacted a few house removal companies hoping to sell the current property, but none of them are interested due to asbestos in the ceiling and decramastic tile roof. We did factor in cost for demolishing the house when we purchased, but was wondering if there are other options? We contemplated selling privately instead of to a moving company but never done this before, any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated!

giving it away for free would be better than paying for demo, make sure the buyers clean up the site

That's what we are thinking. Is TradeMe the best place for this? What would we need to watch out for, e.g. contracts etc to make sure the house is removed on time and site tidied up?

Just the fact that the tiles contain asbestos...?

Personally, I think you'd be fighting an uphill battle.
There are lots of relocatable houses out there and quite a few are free.
Why would they take yours, when it will cost them extra tens of thousands for asbestos handling, when they could take one of the others that won't?

I've been keeping an eye on the relocatable market for the past couple of years (planning a project myself) and the 70s ones tend to stay on the market for longer. I personally am not interested in anything newer than a 60s weatherboard.
    My blog. From personal experience.
